Aware this is inappropriate for lyrics suggestions, I’ll join the enthusiasts with two: Sinead O’Connor: “The Emperor’s New Clothes” & Peter Gabriel’s “Family Snapshot”

2024-04-27 18:34:12 +0000 UTCOn the song’s whole titles, I’m afraid you left someone there to have a chance to live . . . So pro-life, dear Dr. D , something to make us all happy !

2024-04-27 18:25:43 +0000 UTCWow this is my first foray into fan favorites and I only voted for my top choices totaling four. But the stumping for particular cuts is so entertaining ! "... if one of your five votes is languishing..." That pitch just got my last " precious " votes despite being a Rush song that I am not as familiar with .

2024-04-27 17:37:55 +0000 UTCHi Robert, "Security" is already on Doug's Master List for a future EPL... but it's under "P" for Peter instead of "G" for Gabriel... and it's listed there as "4" instead of Security! :-)

2024-04-26 18:42:15 +0000 UTCTo any fellow Patreon voters who have not yet voted for Rush’s “Roll the Bones,” if one of your five votes is languishing on a song with slim-to-no chance, please give the brilliant lyricist Neil Peart a boost!! It will be close … To have a FF dedicated to National Poetry Month that wouldn’t include him is just too wrong to contemplate. 🥲

2024-04-26 16:11:24 +0000 UTCIt can take a little while to navigate. Once you are there, you're in!

2024-04-26 14:10:56 +0000 UTCI've thought of submitting Security for an Extended Play Lounge.

2024-04-26 14:09:22 +0000 UTCThanks Barry! I found the link on the website, but not on the app. All good now 😊

2024-04-26 03:26:08 +0000 UTCThis comment is probably off topic, but I’m new to Patreon and don’t know where else to ask this question: how do I get access to the Discord channel? I’ve searched Discord but no luck.

2024-04-25 22:06:24 +0000 UTCIt’s not looking hopefull, but I hope Al Stewart gets in. Please vote it up!!

2024-04-25 17:01:30 +0000 UTCI would encourage everyone to listen to the songs that are not familiar. Part of the fun of FF is finding new artists and songs, even if they don’t win.

2024-04-25 15:53:00 +0000 UTCIndeed. With you 100% on that one! I knew I wanted to get one of The Dan's songs into the list, if possible. Let's be honest, though. There are at least nine hundred twenty-three thousand great and memorable Walter Becker lyrics. I went with my instincts.

2024-04-25 06:06:16 +0000 UTCLyrically; Synchronicity II is both- brilliant and dreadful. Sting cunningly connects the angst-ridden life of a miserable family man to a sea monster rising up from the depths to destroy a family. ((my interpretation, of course))

2024-04-25 02:15:43 +0000 UTCI definitely understand how it feels to be personally/emotionally invested in one's own submission. The hope a song gets selected is real, and it is an emotional let down when it doesn't. I for one know that I am going to listen to Thunder and Consolation tonight, so thanks :)

2024-04-25 01:49:53 +0000 UTCI’m excited to see how well Royal Scam is doing! I love that song and it’s from one of my favorite all time albums.

2024-04-25 00:11:28 +0000 UTCValid concern, but this is (usually) a pretty discriminating group. I only voted for one song I know; and has incredible lyrics! Have faith, friend!
Tom (the soggy one)
2024-04-24 23:21:58 +0000 UTCYou’re not wrong - it took a bit to find one that he hasn’t done!!
Margaret Barnes
2024-04-24 23:20:52 +0000 UTCMaybe because Doug has already covered most of the Rush catalog?
Tom (the soggy one)
2024-04-24 23:20:05 +0000 UTCThis is the first time one of my suggestions has made it to the poll! Exciting! Steely Dan, folks! Walter Becker was one of the major lyricists in rock! I'm attempting to influence your vote (but no porn stars have been paid off).
Bill Brinkmoeller
2024-04-24 23:17:16 +0000 UTCWe have the "Diamonds in the Rough" Fan Favorites for less familiar songs (there's been a couple of them if you search them here on Patreon)

2024-04-24 23:15:35 +0000 UTCI am English, and I learned about the Edmund Fitzgerald from that song. That took me on to watch a couple of documentaries about it, and I learned that those great lakes are really inland seas, and capable of great violence. I learned respect for the sailors on the Great Lakes, and felt sympathy for the tough lives they have led. All this from listening to a song! What power songs can have sometimes.

2024-04-24 22:14:34 +0000 UTCThere is only one Rush song on this poll, and I’m surprised that the Late, Great Neil Peart isn’t getting more love here. His lyrics are legendary!!
Margaret Barnes
2024-04-24 21:43:55 +0000 UTCPeter Gabriel - "Rhythm of the Heat" and "Family and the Fishing Net" would be most excellent!
Anthony Taylor
2024-04-24 21:19:24 +0000 UTCI love 'If you Could Read My Mind' ...I may submit that for a Daily Doug Submission
Rebecca Walsh
2024-04-24 21:01:47 +0000 UTCSure hope The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald wins. It really hits close to home with me because I first heard it when it came out in 1977 when I was five years old and my dad explained to me what the song was about. Also, I live in Michigan.

2024-04-24 19:32:55 +0000 UTCWe need to get more BÖC into Doug's ears! Vote for Nosferatu!
Matthew Hackbert
2024-04-24 18:28:34 +0000 UTCAgreed. But hopefully he'll sneak in with TWOTEF - few better lyrics than that? So many others of his could be there. Even popular ones that I love the lyrics to like Daylight Katy and of course If You Could Read My Mind.
Adrian Goodrich
2024-04-24 18:09:37 +0000 UTCSadly, there are a number of these I am not familiar with. So I have to vote for ones I know (and love) - and there are some good ones there! Almost any Al Stewart song would qualify for me, though. I saw him acoustic live a few years ago, and he explained each one of the Year of the Cat album lyrics. Fascinating! And great to see Gordon Lightfoot there - another superb lyricist.

2024-04-24 18:05:34 +0000 UTCFrom the looks of it, Canadian Railroad Trilogy won’t make it into the top 5 but definitely needs a listen later on. Rip Gord

2024-04-24 17:06:15 +0000 UTCHi Doug, The problem with a community vote is that people vote for the songs that they already know which means that the most familiar songs will always win out against the others and people tend not to hear new and possibly more interesting music. If I had made a suggestion this month it would have been for New Model Army's "Green and Grey" which has fantastic lyrics but they are a niche kind of band despite having been active since the eighties, so the song would not have stood a chance. Can I make a suggestion for your consideration? Why not have, say, two songs chosen at random to join the ones chosen by Patreon votes to allow people to hear something that they are not familiar with? Thanks Paul
Paul
