Which river should I do next?
Added 2025-03-06 13:34:44 +0000 UTCWith just two videos of the Thames series left to edit and release I’ve been beginning pondering which river I should take on next. While I do have a couple of potential candidates in mind, before I share these I’d be very interested to receive your input. Which river would you like to see me tackle?

The river Don, starts on the Yorkshire moors, bump n scrape in low water right through Penistone and outside Sheffield, locks out into the Trent I think?, then Humber if your going all the way? Lots of industrial parts and then quiet parts.

2025-05-23 09:51:27 +0000 UTCI would suggest the Werra river in Germany. It starts in the Thuringian Forrest, it flows through wonderful and diverse landscapes and long sections are identical with the former Iron Curtain - you can see it (still!) when observing the vegetation sorrowly. You would pass forrests, fields, huge artificial salt mountains, sandstone gorges, lakes and old towns with beautiful frame houses. You would end at the Weser Stone in the beautiful small city of Hannoversch Münden (many old houses etc.) where the Werra and the Fulda river become the Weser river - which could also lead you to the Noth Sea...

2025-05-10 08:00:08 +0000 UTCI want to say the Mississippi River here in the US, but there are a lot of large fish and predators lurking in and around there so it might not be safe for a kayak. Maybe try the Hudson River instead, and finish in NY/NJ?

As you head back through Hafren you can get some incredible drone shots. Lovely landscapes then through Wales as it heads to Shrewsbury, there is a weir in this town which may pose an issue but you'd be able to pull the kayak over it via rope on the side path. Then head to Worcester and eventually Bristol. Huge challenge! Would be incredible it's something I always wanted to do.

2025-03-06 13:48:03 +0000 UTCI understand the USA is quite unpopular right now but there are some amazing rivers with interesting histories and questionable futures in the USA. The Colorado River with respect to water rights and the Mississippi River with respect to climate change and flooding. These rivers go through urban and remote areas with plenty of natural beauty and cityscpes like New Orleans in Louisiana.

2025-03-06 13:47:55 +0000 UTCRiver Avon would be great! Beautiful the whole way down.

2025-03-06 13:46:09 +0000 UTCI would recommend avoid the USA for the time being. Logistically, other rivers in the UK make sense, especially with local support and language barriers not being a problem. It doesn't need to be an exotic choice, just being on the journey with Eric is what really matters.

2025-03-06 13:42:26 +0000 UTCThe Shannon could be great if you fancy something a bit wilder (plus the Irish are great). The Severn if you feel like staying in the UK. Po in Italy could give a similar feel in terms of distance. Can’t wait to see you at it!
