Getting Reactions to the MAGA hat

This is one of two videos I am releasing at the same time tomorrow. In other words, it has a twin! Basically, it's a companion video. I also did a similar video about a symbol more distant in American history, the Confederate battle flag. I filmed the reactions at the same time, but thought that it would work better as two separate videos. I had to make some adjustments to the other video for a sponsor, but it's coming soon.

It was extremely difficult for me to hit the streets like this. I got rejected 90 to 95% of the time. I want to thank my good friend, Dan Dutcher, for helping me film these reactions to folks on the street.

Anyway, I think they turned out pretty entertaining. Not a lot of Trump fans in the city I live, but at least you get to see me wear a MAGA hat. Meme away!

Thank you for your continued support. :)

Getting Reactions to the MAGA hat

Who was this video for? Who on earth doesn’t know what that symbol means to people? Was this just to be controversial? And I see you’re doing the confederate flag too. What will that prove? Will you also don a swastika in a third companion piece? These symbols have strong negative associations for good reason. You cannot bandy them about with critical distance. They cut straight to people’s pain and suffering.

When I see the Maga hat I immediately think of lies, hatred and corruption. It's anyone's prerogative the company they want to keep. I want nothing to do with them.

I was too young to remember Bush Senior. in fact i think Clinton is the first presedent i can remember but I was born in nov 87. I never made since out of raciest embracing trump the only reason i seen given is their neighbors embrace him so they do. because even with Trumps populism he was for a much smaller government then a KKK or Nazi idiolog would be for, also left leaning colleges were promotiong segregated dorm rooms which to me seems like something raciest would get on board with. In fact there is jokes about it on youtube. I do vaigley remember a report in 2020 toward the end that Trumps appeal to raciest had dropped because of his policy's causing minority community's to gain more jobs. That seemed to coincide with republicans making gains in minority community's that election.

Yeah, I do get annoyed when people hastily call Trump and his supporters racist. It's obviously not true, although some racists sadly have embraced Trump. Interesting that you say Clinton was close second. I lean more toward Bush Sr being the best in my lifetime. Bush Sr. and Clinton do look a lot better these days. Trump's greatest appeal was that he was an outsider. It was incredibly refreshing that he wasn't getting lobbyist money, at least in the beginning. The whole "Drain the Swamp" thing really resonated in 2016.

Ohhhhh yeah

Oh wow, I either didn't know you also went to KU or must have forgotten! I was in Oliver Hall my first year at KU, which was 2001. We were just a couple blocks away from each other! And yeah, you know that Lawrence is a bit...different...than the rest of the state politically. :) We did move away for several years, but then moved back in 2016.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of my all-time favorite shows. And well put about all that. It was definitely soo difficult for me to get out there and do this.

Still the best president in my lifetime with Clinton being a close second. Id be interested in you asking that question in a more conservative Kansas town as Lawrence is a college town and leans more left of center even being one of only 5 county's that voted democratic in the 2020 election. To me it just amplifys what people on the left and right feel about themselves and eachother already prior. before trump republicans were being called raciest defacto. i first noticed this in the bush presedency. The left already felt all those things about people on the right and waring that hat was just a flag saying "im republican." to them being Republican means all those negative things because they have been told over and over again that is what the oposition belives. For Republicans the hat meant a return to constituonality or more patriotic time. and all i know on the right wants that time to be for everyone equally. Though i once held this dreamy view myself im not sure there was ever a point in time where we were fully in tune with the constitution or beliefs expressed in the declaration of independence and insinuated in the articles of confederation.

*gets email notification on phone* Me: This won't be controversial at all.

Ah, good ole Lawrence, KS where I went to college. I thought you moved out of there? I'm not surprised most reactions to the MAGA hat were fairly negative. I do miss that city. Btw, I was living on campus at Jayhawker Towers during 9/11 twenty years ago. I think you said you were in Lewis Hall during that time?

First off, great video concept! Kudos to you for having the courage to discuss this symbol out in public. I think it is important to have a dialogue about things like this. The MAGA hat represents something different depending on who ask. I think it represents economic and cultural ambitions. I also think it’s “owning the libs” and being against mainstream culture because that’s how Trump branded himself. Also, loved the Curb Your Enthusiasm clip. Wonderful episode and very amusing bit.

Thank you so much!

Mr. Beat

Great video! Your videos seem to be way longer on average now, and when they’re not as long, there’s 2 a week! How do you keep up with this?! Serious congrats
