The Baseball Game Between the KKK and a Negro League Team

When I first found out about this event, I was in disbelief, but sure enough, it did happen. Here's the story of the time a KKK baseball team played a Negro League Baseball League team. It happened in 1925. Despite the racism of the time, it went surprisingly well.

Oh, and stick around 'til the end of the video- a fun fact is hidden in there. :)

Thank you for your continued support.

I hinted at it but didn't say it directly. I should have, especially since pretty much all my family is Catholic!

Mr. Beat

I wish i knew about this when i did my video.

Probably one of the reasons for the game in Kansas is that the KKK did not want to appear to be attacking blacks at all in Kanasas. their pamplet at the time (1920s) didnt mention race at all. their main target was europian immigrant and catholics. The goal being that they wanted to be populated in every state in the country. Kansas and Indiana were considered the best spots to begin a move north. but outright antiblack racism in Kansas at the time was not a popular move.

Devin Canada

you forgot mentioning the KKK was attacking Catholics as well, and any immigrant that put their place of origin first before their name.

I'm tellin' ya, the most interesting stuff can be found in non-fiction. Stuff that really happened is often unbelievable.

Mr. Beat

I'm about 30 minutes away from both. I've been to the WWI Museum 5 or 6 times, and the Negro League Museum once when I was a kid, but I'm always down to go to both again. You might wait until the new Negro League Museum is built, though! Also, the Steamboat Museum looks cool. I embarrassingly have never been there.

Mr. Beat

How bizarre! Was never aware of this one man... Done properly this has potential for a great comedy film script.

I live in St. Louis, and two things are on my list for Kansas City: the Negro League Museum and the World War I Museum! I'm not sure how close or far you are from there, but I'll hit you up when I go there next and it would be a dream come true to meet up with you somewhere!

Indeed it is! Be sure to share my video with your mom. 😁

Mr. Beat

I am but a commoner myself, so no worries. 🙂 I'll check it out. I also recommend the Negro League Museum if you're ever in Kansas City.

I never knew about this! Crazy! Thank you for teaching me something new! I am glad the right team won. My mom was from Wichita and I always appreciate learning historical things about the city. Also, for anyone who doesn’t know, The Negro Baseball Museum in Kansas City is a wonderful museum worth checking out if your ever in KC.

I know you already know most of history, but a commoner like myself knew nothing about the negro leagues...until listening to an episode of Stuff You Should Know on the topic. It's amazing, and I recommend it to all who consider themselves green on the topic! Looking forward to this one.
