A Brief History of Immigration to the United States

Heck, I even look at immigration to the United States BEFORE the United States existed, which is a big reason why this video isn't so BRIEF after all. Regardless, I cover a lot of stuff in 28 minutes. Much of it is adapted from my old lesson plans.

Next week I'll be releasing another The Beat Goes On video. Have a great Memorial Day weekend, and thank you for your continued support!

A Brief History of Immigration to the United States

Hmmhm. My parents are from Belarus and Ukraine, moved to Murica in late 1999.

I have mixed feelings about this topic ๐Ÿค”

Gael Guerard

I think at least 75% of Americans agree with you. Well put. Which country are your parents from? (out of curiousity)

Mr. Beat

Definitely quite the topic, especially for me considering that I live in the US and my parents are immigrants. I think there should be a balance: that we should know who's coming in, make the borders safer, have some pathway to citizenship, never demonize them, educate people further, and also focus on deeper causes. After all, the U.S. is such a big example of a melting pot of immigrants. But why fix it when certain people can get political points for it..

Daniel Kolbin

Amen!!

Boy I actually thought was going to happen this year. Dang Trump obstructed any progress. It's a shame he holds so many back.

Mr. Beat

Nicely done covering our complicated history with immigration. The War on drugs, meddling in foreign government affairs, lax gun laws that make it easier to smuggle guns out of the country, broken asylum system, etc. are all reasons for the immigration crisis. Congress is capable of helping the problem by passing laws that address these issues. The cynical side of me thinks they wonโ€™t do anything about it because itโ€™s better for them politically, though. :(

Good job on a challenging subject!

Gael Guerard

Thank you Grant. And well put! I'd argue that immigration is a big reason why we ended up so powerful and wealthy as a nation. We'd be screwed without immigrants.

Mr. Beat

Great video Mr. Beat. My spouse and many of my colleagues and friends are immigrants. I've learned a lot of interesting things about their cultures. As someone who is mostly descended from Irish and Italian migrants in the early 20th century, I am sympathetic towards groups who are looked down upon today, as I'm sure my ancestors were, and I try to make them feel more welcome. Being a nation of immigrants is one of my favorite parts about the US, and I believe immigration has and will continue to make our country stronger.
