[Oracle]'s tone amuses Ashmedai. They frown, a corner of their lips twitching upward. “I can’t tell if you believe me or not.”
“I always believe you.”
“You sound like you don’t like it.”
[Oracle] releases their hand, and Ashmedai feels acute disappointment, immediately followed by shame. They shouldn’t be greedy. This disappointment means they have got used to [Oracle]’s closeness, and that is a foolish mistake.
Years have gone by, but Ashmedai hasn’t become smarter.
