Os raises their hand, and your breath catches. They cup your cheek and lean forward. You close your eyes, and they press their lips against yours in a soft caress. Elation battles with guilt inside you. You crave their touch, their presence, warmth, but at the time, they’re poisoning you. The ache is so deep that it reaches your bones, sinking into them like fangs.
When they pull back, you pray that your expression doesn’t betray your anguish.
For the moment that they stare at your face in silence, their own expression unreadable, you heart beats faster in fear. But then they smile, and sharp relief rushes through you.
