Her family ended up all dying from consuming poison, but thanks to Gwen’s unique building, it did nothing to her and eventually, all others were out and there was no one else to be the heiress except from Gwen! She gladly accepted the role fate entrusted her, and she works very hard to do it well, and no, she never once thought all that happened was political-assassination nor treason of any kind (it was tho, she was just too hard to kill and the person gave up)
