I don't think the "yet" implied he might reciprocate her feelings, just that he's probably gonna be somewhat distant until then and not really process what has happened. Honestly at the time he gave away all his money I thought it was kinda stupid because he couldn't have known if he would later need it to improve his chances to reach Asuna. Although it turned out well in the end, it seemed a bit short-sighted at the time.
