That, and much of your other work (and adjacent podcasts, AND last but not least having lived through "interesting times") really helps one feel less confused and rudderless during things like (a) the hurricane of horror that is engulfed by an even larger and more overwhelming hurricane of bullshit that is the events of the last 5+ days in and around Gaza and (b) going well and further back, the rise of the crank class in the wake of things like 9/11, Trump, Covid, etc. (Thinking of your example of, every time people want to examine 9/11 for inconsistencies and strange peripheries, they are almost immediately beset by, like, some screamy person claiming they saw the Xenomorphs from ALIENS flying the planes into the towers.) For myself, well it's not comforting, per se, but as the bullshit hurricane continues to churn w/ regards to the Israel-Hamas War (just using the presently accepted term for it), as every instance of destruction and murder, real and rumored, is pushed through an ever-more fractured spin cycle, I take some solace reminding myself to take a step back and watch out for the machinery of power, however diffuse, to do what it always does: seize opportunities to make money, absorb real estate, obfuscate smaller-scale fuckups, and... realistically, whatever the fuck else they want.
