Loopholes Podcast Episode 15

Hello there

After last week's diversion/derailment we return this week with the actual Loopholes episode 15 which tackles the thorny issue of demonologists.

Don't forget, as plotted during Loopholes derailed, the first 20 mins or so of this episode is identical to last week, picking up at the moment where we went off piste last weeks (with a couple of sneaky winks to the audience as you'd expect.

It's another ep that tips well over the hour mark, but - as you'll hear - it covers a lot of ground in it's time slot.

Really hope you enjoy it, and hope your week is going brilliantly

Much love to you

Sorry about another wall of text, feel free to ignore/skip The whole issue of supernatural/spiritual beliefs and how they're viewed as distinct from mental health issues is genuinely a big aspect of mental healthcare. Mental health diagnostic criteria are really hard to pin down and constantly evolving as it is, but one ongoing issue is that fact that negative changes in mental health are typically measured against *social* norms, beliefs and behaviours, not physical ones like with physical problems. This often causes confusion, like how if an accountant from a secular family in Northampton suddenly starts talking aloud to an invisible presence, that'd be considered a problem. But if they were someone raised in a fundamentalist evangelical commune in the US deep south started 'talking to God', that'd be different. Same 'symptoms', very different 'baseline'. If you've been taught your whole life that an all powerful deity is all around you and you can talk to it, and you start doing so, that's objectively not abnormal or illogical behaviour. Same applies to the esoterotic. If you've lived your whole life in a world that tells you ghosts/demons/poltergeists are real, acting on this is less likely to indicate something is amiss, mentally. It's a real headache and makes an already hugely confusing process even more so, but what can you do? Also, if anyone still doubts Ian's expertise, a legitimate answer to the Drake Equation is 'Three stars, some funny bits'.

I can become a demonologist for £28! Brilliant, I’m going to do it.
