Alt 2 Britpop playlist/American response still active!

Listeners have been adding new tunes over the last week. The selections are excellent, a perfect late summer playlist. BUT: we always need more. We need you 🫵 Here is the invite to contribute:

And here is an American response 2 the alternative 2 Britpop playlist, a great idea from listener Jess:

Anyone got a fresh invite link for either playlist? I’d like to join in please

Eoin Donnelly

I can't load the playlist, what is it. The rules are very clear. Whoever did this will pay.

Call me old-fashioned but I don’t think an LA artist’s single from 2022 has much of a place on this playlist

Jacob

Added some stuff from Sarah Records - a tiny Bristol-based label that was completely ignored by the laddish British press in the early days of Britpop but which was making artsy indie rock in the American college radio sense.

Gareth Watkins

This is the poetry of history.

Sandy

Playlist slaps, thank you!!!

That's a really good description of it - thinking about the difference between Parklife and HMHB songs on similar themes really shows up the flaws in Blur's effort.

Ana McKenna

Is Parklife just a fake Half Man Half Biscuit song but with a hook or something? Never heard it before today. I don’t get it at all.

Can't seem to add anything to the american playlist

Alfred Larsson

Thanks all! Please contribute to the American Playlist as well! I was not yet a fully sentient being in the 90s, so there’s tons I’ve missed!!! And my Irish-American parents had me listening almost exclusively to The Pogues (and Miami Bass via the Space Jam Soundtrack) so you can see that I didn’t have very well-rounded formative years. The contribution link may have expired, if so lmk.

I'll add a few tracks I think match the vibe of the current playlists and last two episodes. Also respect to whoever added Muslimgauze.

Alfred Larsson

Doffing the hat to whoever added The Jangling Man. Martin Newell is just brilliant and that song hits hard.

Before anyone asks who put Bowie's Little Wonder on there, it was me. IT WAS ME. Cue an amen breakbeat's worth of 'not proper junglism!' etc I have always read that track/album, and the McQueen jacket etc, as a smart but misfiring critique of the various Britpop scenes, from someone who was involved in all their previous iterations: 'Guys, why do you sound like bad me 25 years ago? Even I can see all this other stuff is going on, and I'm practically an American by now...'
