I remember in the years preceding the GFA the place being abundant in cheap ecstasy via UVF dealers - to the extent that we used to (semi-ironically) joke it did more to lay groundwork for peace between communities than any of the political manoeuvres. As a Catholic I've got surreal pilled up memories of high-fiving and sweaty bear hugging known loyalist paramilitaries in nightclubs at the time...(check out C4 documentary Dancing on Narrow Ground on YouTube for some bleak nostalgia on the scene). Also loyalisms link with apartheid South Africa well documented - not least massive weapons shipments right up to the late 80's - with assistance from Brit intelligence of course ...
