CloudBox - Your Questions Answered

What's CloudBox?
Basically, it's a frontend that includes a download manager that scrapes and download games on demand from the best public available server, currently there are 2 versions:

What's the right version for me?
It depends on your preference. The standalone version is ready to go and is the easier option; I recommend using this one.
The Launchbox version involves more steps but allows you to use the complete feature set of Launchbox/Big Box. Also, if you really know your way around Launchbox, you can integrate it into your current collection to make it even more powerful!

How does the emulation work?
For convenience, this uses RetroArch. I've included a basic configuration to get you started. However, you may need to make adjustments according to your preferences or if some games don't run.

Can I use my own Retroarch folder?
Yes, absolutely. Simply replace the folder inside the "Emulators" directory within the app.
I may add a way to select an external instance of Retroarch in the future!

Can i use other emulators?
Yes and no. The CloudBox Standalone version currently allows downloads to any folder on your computer, so technically you can use other emulators. However, its core functionality is built around RetroArch.

Does this include games/Roms?
No, no ROMs are included in the app and will never be!
This app just scrapes and list the files available on public servers.

What happens if the currently supported server goes down?
Please be aware that If the currently supported server goes down or changes security, the app stops working. If there's another option, I'll make sure to add support. If not, I'll probably move the focus to private servers collections (most likely SMB/networked drives).

What happens if the app does not work for me?
This only works on Windows machines, you must have basic knowledge of how firewalls, antivirus, ISPs and servers work, if you get download errors, it may be due to a file taken by your AV, a firewall rule (internal or external), a local network configuration, captive portals or ports blocked from your ISP, etc.

Small summary: This app doesn't include any ROMs. It's simply a custom downloader app that sources files from a safe and fast public server. This app comes with no warranty, if the supported server changes its security or stops functioning, the app will stop working too. Please consider this and make sure to use the Download to Collection feature!
