Ch5Pg1: Step 3.5

"Further Adventures in Graphic Design: Agonizing Over Tiny Details" was too long of a title.

Messed with this guy a teensy bit more since this morning since I thought it didn't look "flame-y" enough. What do you guys think?

seems like every one likes B and i agree defenetly make it pop a bit more

James M Heinonen

I think B is more fitting for the overall look.

Nathan Weber

I don't want to break up the silhouette TOO much, otherwise it'll get a little muddy, but I want to see what I can do to preserve the silhouette of the first while adding more "flames" similar to the second. AUGH THIS IS HARD

Oo! I do like B more. Nice small tweak that makes quite a difference!

Marie-Claire Saindon

B has a more dramatic appeal. A doesn't even work with the whole "circle" mentality, because, look, the tail extends out of that "circle". Stick with B.

Jon Krupp

B with more feathers curling out of the circle.

B!

Both. Because there will be instances when you need something to fit into a perfect circle (such as A) but the rest of the time extra curves of B make a more interesting and fun design. "A" works well for coins. :D

Mary Williams

B. Like other's have said, A looks like something that would be carved/stamped into metal by some dwarf smith. And if I didn't have prior knowledge of "it's a phoenix," A has the potential to be a crest of a more common bird of prey. Meanwhile, B is better, but now there's the dilemma of having the other feathers bend to match. I can see the challenge of adding curves while keeping minimalism. Among other things, I can't wait to see the end result! :D ( Both would look awesome stamped/gilded into a red leather bound journal and the like. ) EDIT: Would cutting flame shapes inside the bird silhouette get too weird?

B. Because it looks more alive, and less geometric.

Hariman

B definitely better. Has more of an organic feel reminiscent of chaotic fire. A looks more blade-like with its sharp edges and hooks, which engenders the cold feeling of metal. At least for me, anyway. ;P
