You're right. That's one reason why I love older movies, they were made based around talent and art as much as anything else, and although even back then there were movie stars and the politics and commercial forces that go with it, I think now the focus is on choosing people who have flawless looks or who fit a certain demographic or marketing strategy. Mainstream cinema has largely become a venue for roller-coaster, polished entertainment products, rather than a medium for artists to express an original voice or vision. Ironically it's the television streaming platforms that probably bring that kind of creativity now, with only the popcorn franchises putting bums on seats in the multiplexes.

2021-07-22 22:05:06 +0000 UTCI enjoy this movie so much, and your reaction was wonderful. One of the things I was thinking about while watching the YouTube cut (for your intro/outro and to see what bits you picked, since this movie is so rich with content) is that people in these movies have such interesting faces. You just don't see people like these in modern Hollywood movies, except maybe as thugs or homeless or something like that, and even then, only briefly.
