I've been pretty quiet, all things considered, so I appreciate y'all sticking around while I try to juggle 18 different things that are all behind the scenes and cannot come out onto the stage yet.
This week I found out a couple things about page formatting and CMYK conversions: I've been doing them wrong. Which means that all the work Yoko has done is... for lack of a better word, moot.
LUCKILY, the situation is salvageable. Hiveworks has a Color Tech who is on staff to handle things specifically like this, so we've decided to make use of their services, which we probably should have done from the beginning. This means we're surrendering a lot of control over how the pages will look, but it also means that things will be happening much more quickly, and we have to prioritize the production of new pages, as well as finish up a bunch of other things that demand our attention.
However, it also means my To Do list is suddenly much shorter, and the only real thing I'll have to focus on is the little corrections that some of the pages need, which, it turns out, I should have been doing before even starting color conversions.
That's okay. This is my first time. The rest will be easier.
But now it means I'm sitting down to get these things done, like making all the text sizes consistent across every page (if you look at the archive, the text starts really big, then wobbles in size throughout the story until it settles on a good size).
I've only been working on formatting/setting up pages of Chapter 1 for color versions for the past 6 hours, and I haven't even gotten to the corrections, like changing the Cave Elf tattoos and other things like that. This SUCKS. I want to go back in time and shake Past Meg by the shoulders. NONE of the layer organization makes any sense. Some of the word balloons are part of the artwork! WHY DID I DO THIS TO MYSELF.
