here it is, the whole shebang

HERE'S THE BREAKDOWN! ONE TWO THREE FOUR:

Thumbnail: This is the sloppy drawing I do when I'm transferring my script from the traditional format in my sketchbook to the digital format in my Photoshop template. This is typically the phase where I figure out panels and broad layouts, but as you can see here, there's only one panel, and... Past Meg just... trusted Future Meg to do all the hard work.

Prep Work: Went through and set up the panel, and dropped in that life saving grid that Beast, out of the goodness of their good good heart, put out into the internet to help clueless artists like me.

First Pass: Here's the first rough drawing/composition I did. It's cool, but Thistle disappears too much into the background and it doesn't immediately read as a bookstore.

Second Pass: Here's the second drawing I did that immediately feels a lot better. Look at that. The focus of the shot is really clear, and the all the additional details feel just like that: less important details.

Final Art: I went through and tightened up everything and wow look at that sweet art that's ready to ink and definitely didn't take me like 5 days to draw. (PS: as a Patron, you can scroll back through the feed here and see a TON of WIP pics for this part of the process.)

Printed: This is the artwork, printed onto an 11x17" piece of paper, with another 11x17" piece of paper taped on top of it so I can ink it on my light board.

Inking: Inking. This takes, like, 3 days.

Scan: The final inks are scanned, darkened, and cleaned up, then shipped off to Yoko and Rosey.

Flats: Rosey adds flats for Yoko to color. This takes... like... two days. It wipes her out.

Colors: Yoko colors the page. This takes... like... I don't even know. It also wipes her out.

Final: I get the page back from Yoko, and I spend 2 - 3 hours endlessly tweaking everything because I am a monster. I turn the Word Balloon and Dialogue Layers back on, then post the page. While I feel relieved, I am also, you guessed it, wiped out.
