General Update
Added 2021-10-08 17:02:58 +0000 UTC...on the... uh... situation I told you all about last time. Since we last talked, I've been able to hire and retain a lawyer, and handed off communication with [REDACTED] to them.
It's my last day at Nickelodeon; I start at [REDACTED] the week after next, and the lawyers are still talking to each other about DotL and what they think I'm allowed to do with it. My counsel is confident that they can work something out, and doesn't seem concerned about the situation... but it's still taking time.
I'm reaching out to Hiveworks to see if I should keep updating the comic until something is finalized, since there's a chance this ongoing conversation will overlap my actual employment at the studio.
I don't want anyone to be concerned; this is going to be okay no matter which way the situation ends up going. Even in the worst case scenario, I am still working on the comic and retain the rights to it completely. Remember: this whole situation started because I wanted [REDACTED] to acknowledge the existence of my independent work and tell me they would keep their hands off of it; and their response was to try and tell me that I'm not allowed to do anything with it. That's a pretty good place to be.
Honestly the most frustrating thing about this situation has been random people giving me unsolicited legal advice!!!
I'm going to get back to work, and I'll let you know what things for the comic will look like this Tuesday or Wednesday once I've had a chance to talk to some people. Have a great weekend, everyone!
