May Update: It's Smooth (Featuring Santana)

I don't think this month's update is likely to be very long. Not because there isn't much to report, far from it, it's probably because there is so very much.

The first of which I want to report is that the playtest are ongoing. I'm currently managing two separate games a week as I run peoples through the same 2-3 session adventure and it's been going excitingly well. The first of these should find itself finished tomorrow if all things go according to plan. And at least at this stage, everything just feels smooth.

Everything is operating as intended and evoking the tones and feelings I hoped they would. The things that need adjusting are largely the things I thought might and have already planned for. The question is now to just nudge and adjust to feel as best as it can. I think my biggest problem at this point is trying to figure out how to frontload what is likely to be a 300+ page books worth of rules for a game you've likely never played anything like before without overwhelming, but still letting you know all the tools at your disposal. But that's largely a problem of familiarity.

I'll figure it out.

But that's not all either. I also wrote and completed the first chapter of the book itself. I want to get a bit more playtesting under my belt before I commit the more mechanics intensive chapters to page. Measure twice, cut once applies to more than just carpentry. But what I did write for Approaches.

Approaches are a measure of how good your character is at solving problems in certain ways. Unlike an attribute, it's not about how strong or sneaky or smart you are, but rather how apt you are at solving your problems from a certain frame of mind. It's about your goals and intentions.

You can read more in the attachment below. Keep in mind this is a first draft, so will have typos, things subject to change, and placeholders.
