August Update
Added 2023-08-05 12:50:50 +0000 UTCHey everyone! I thought it might be a good idea to give all of you objectively awesome people a quick overview over what’s to come and what I’ve planned going forward.
So first things first! A huge thank you to every single one of you! I started this Patreon thingy without any real expectations and more like a thing to slowly grow over the years to come and it is already a massive help!
Honestly, I can’t thank all of you enough! You are amazing and I am eternally grateful!
So what do I have planned going forward?
The next thing we’ll do is take a look at discoveries the Mario Maker 2 community made over the last couple of years on the Gaming channel. This video however is only going to be 2/3rds about SMM2 because we’ll chat about Game Maker Garage as well - the other user generated content game Nintendo released. There has been a lot going on in this community over the last couple of months and the community desperately needs someone with a bit of a reach to tell people about it.
Afterwards I want to start with the Zelda series on the Perspective channel, starting with Majoras Mask. I’m still conceptualizing (which is a fancy word for I still have no idea) how exactly I want to cover those games. My current plan is to make those videos a bit shorter (I’m aiming for about 45 minutes per game) and to not only cover the games - but to also tell the tale of Nintendo’s home consoles since the N64, because there are some aspects to this story that seldom get discussed. We’ll probably talk about Phillips and Fidget Spinners and Final Fantasy 7 and DVD players. It’s going to be great (or a total mess)!
In between we’ll discuss Outer Wilds - one of my favorite games ever created. I’m really looking forward to it! At around this time Super Mario Bros. Wonder will release and we will certainly cover that as well - though I have honestly no idea on what we’ll do with it - since I obviously haven’t played it yet.
Finally, I thought I’d share a couple of thoughts on the Perspective channel, what to expect around there in the future and how I try to approach those videos. So first things first. I got a lot of feedback on the analytical videos that we did before the break, that the content is becoming very negative - and I understand where this is coming from.
It was never my intention to make negative content (a lot of it was honestly just a result of YouTubes algorithm pushing me into a certain direction) and it’s something I hope to avoid going forward. While there will always be things to criticize and negativity is something that is impossible to avoid entirely, I want the videos to be something that is overall more positive than negative. For this reason I plan to only cover games that I overall really enjoy. There’s also a second layer to this. Producing those videos takes hundreds of hours of work. I’m not super hot on spending hundreds of hours of my life working on something that I don’t enjoy just to tell all of you how unenjoyable it has been.
So when we’ll talk about older games, I’ll only cover stuff I overall enjoy to avoid the content from becoming too negative going forward. The only exception that I want to make to this, is when it concerns new developments or things that are of relevance right now. You know, if Microsoft ends up buying Capcom, or if Nintendo plasters the next Mario game with loot boxes, then we’ll have a discussion about it that ain’t going to be nice - but otherwise I actively try to avoid this.
Finally, finally. I thought I’d give you an overview on what games I plan to discuss on the perspective channel alongside the Zelda series. Not all of those games will get their own video but they are all games that do something interesting and that I enjoyed a lot. It’s “Inscription”, “Subnautica”, “Supralands”, “Fez”, “Shovel Knight”, “Tunic”, “A Hat in Time”, “Bug Fables”, “Celeste”, “Braid”, “Portal”, “The Witness” and “Psychonauts” alongside the more commonly known games, like the Souls series, the open world bethesda games and this weird Nintendo series about this guy plumbing things alongside the other twenty two games that I forgot. If you are looking for something to play and have missed some of those games: The games above are all games that I one hundred percent can recommend to anyone.
Actually finally this time for real. A huge thank you to all of you again. Content like the one I’m doing has a really hard time surviving on YouTube and you wonderful ladies and gentleman are all making a real difference in making sure that those videos can exist.
May your days be fuzzyfull!

Love ya Ceave! Ever since I found your channel some years ago, you've always been my favorite. Proud to be sustainable enough to support you 💙💙

2023-08-28 08:08:20 +0000 UTCI have been subscribed the past month but unfortunately can't really afford to stay that way :( But I hope I helped just a little to keep you making your epic videos! Good luck Ceave

2023-08-26 15:10:40 +0000 UTCHello Ceave, I just learned that you have a patreon today and I decided to join. Your content was my favorite content to watch, even back when the first Super Mario Maker was out, despite me not owning the game, or even a Wii U. I really appreciated your content and really missed your uploads around the past 3 years, I would occasionally search to see if you had returned, even seeing that Twitter post you made a year or two back when Twitter was still called Twitter. I became very excited when you released your Super Mario Bros. Wonder video and immediately shared it with my friends before I even began to even watch it because I knew it would be a very high quality video and one that I would enjoy. I was right. Lastly, I am very glad you are back on YouTube. Your latest Mario Maker 2 video was a blast to watch and it took me back. (Dangerous list of evil fan since day 1). Also, we can finally view levels on Super Mario Maker 2, similarly to how we could in the first! (Hooray!). In all seriousness, thank you for all you’ve done over the past many years, and I am looking forward to many more. Keep it up! (this is my third attempt at not accidentally posting this comment before finishing it!) (edit: congrats on getting married by the way! I subscribed to the patreon as soon as I found out it existed, before finishing the end of the video.)

2023-08-26 02:37:06 +0000 UTCIf you liked Joseph's videos make sure to check matthewmethosis and neverknowsbest out - if you haven't yet. They are very similar in style and do excellent work in my opinion!

2023-08-24 09:22:51 +0000 UTCAlso - you might want to check out hjkm.littlegleam.com . It's a new level sharing site that went live a couple of weeks ago. The site is in Japanese but google translate gets the job done!

2023-08-24 09:18:30 +0000 UTCAnd to anybody who doesn't already know Joseph Anderson has a decent repository of video to hold you over until the next Ceave video launches. If you know of any other similar creators please let me know. I love all videos similar to this style, and it's really too much work to ask one person to provide that many videos lol

2023-08-22 05:15:26 +0000 UTCReally pleased to finally have someone to pick up the empty hole in my long form video essay loving heart. Thanks Ceave for all the hard work. already have produced 3 amazing videos!

2023-08-22 05:13:13 +0000 UTCI believe they changed their name to "Creative Corner," a while back. I believe this link is for the server you mentioned: https://discord.gg/fUmgpU5 There is still a section for Labo & Garage and a channel for sharing codes, which should help.

2023-08-18 15:02:38 +0000 UTCReading that the souls series is slated for the perspective channel at some point is extremely exciting to me, since Bloodborne is my favorite game of all time and I would love to see your perspective on it. Pun not intended.

2023-08-18 09:22:55 +0000 UTCDo you watch the channel Folding Ideas, Ceave? He does the kind of long form content that reminds me of your videos to an extent except about internet grifts and the narratives behind them, i.e. NFTs, the Metaverse, Be Your Own Boss cons, flat earthers, etc. and I feel like if you don't already watch him you'd like him a lot. His latest video the Future is a Dead Mall has been routinely on for basically every day of my commute to and from college this semester.

2023-08-16 23:32:19 +0000 UTCQuestion for Ceave? Did you play Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and if so, what did you think of them?

2023-08-16 18:50:45 +0000 UTCI support you not to be your client or something like that, but for the amazing work you have been doing all these years. It's the first time I support someone on Patreon; you have proven to be an amazing creator and I hope you continue your work with only the necessary ammount of pressure to keep producing your awesome videos. Greets from Spain!

2023-08-13 07:33:17 +0000 UTCHey Ceave- happy to be contributing to your patreon! I discovered your channel when I was looking for some commentary on Mario Wonder and wow your perspective was so fresh and really no other commentator on youtube or anywhere else has addressed the explicit drug references. I really liked the Hollow Knight video! Cheers!

2023-08-10 17:53:37 +0000 UTCAs for the Mario movie, I still haven't seen it, but that's something I plan to change soon. (:

2023-08-10 12:54:58 +0000 UTCI took a look at the channel and really liked what I saw! He seems to have a really calm attitude towards the games he talks about, which is something I usually enjoy.

2023-08-10 12:54:17 +0000 UTCAt first I thought the list of games that you are going to cover was great. Than I read portal and totally freaked out, that YOU are going to cover my favourite games of all time. It's just ungodly great

2023-08-10 08:45:14 +0000 UTCThis hit me so hard as well. As an age-old Zelda fan, I wanted so hard to love TotK. I can see it is an absolutely astonishing game, and my brain was having trouble figuring out why I'm not playing it. I bought it. I was all excited and I played probably 8-10 hours of it, but I just wasn't feeling it. Then I watch Ceave's analysis and it all clicked. I don't think negative was how I would describe the content - analytical is more accurate. He takes the good with the bad and explains his perspective. Spot on, and well researched. Keep it up, Ceave. We will watch your content endlessly! Ready? Leeeet's do this! :)

2023-08-09 01:16:20 +0000 UTCAnother question for Ceave: Did you see the Mario movie? If so, what did you think of it? Also did you check out Odyssey Central?
Andrew Medford
2023-08-08 14:20:35 +0000 UTCYeah that makes sense, it seems you already have a lot of stuff you want to d. If the videos take as long as you say they do (which I don't doubt given the quality) then it's expected that it'll be a while but I'm happy they are on the list!

2023-08-08 08:28:21 +0000 UTCPortal is far into the future, I have honestly no idea how exactly I'll tackle it yet. Inscription is probably going to happen soon(ish) though.
Stefan Maier
2023-08-08 06:14:15 +0000 UTCGlad you're looking into covering Psychonauts and Celeste at some point. They're two of my favorite games! Also, I agree with Jesper in that some negative content is totally fine. If you love something enough, you're obviously going to have parts that you think could be done better. Especially for an analysis channel where you're trying to go full in on a game, figuring out what works and what doesn't is important.

2023-08-07 22:02:22 +0000 UTCHappy to help! good to hear that portal and inscription videos are coming, those were both fantastic games and I cant wait to see what you have to say about them, is portal 2 going to be covered in the portal video? is that going to get its own video? or do you not have any plans for it currently?
KingKrusha
2023-08-07 19:38:53 +0000 UTCWhile watching the Hollow Knight perspective, when you started talking about how YouTube is horrible for creating high effort content, I immediately said “Oh, I’d pay to have them be able to continue to make these videos”. Then you brought up Patreon, and here we are! On the negative content, I actually thought it was/is really refreshing once in a while, although I understand people not enjoying it when it’s all that’s produced. For example your recent TotK Perspective really hit home for me, since I personally completely burned out on the game before even experiencing all of the content, but everywhere I looked I could only find ravishing reviews that claimed it was the perfect game with nothing that could’ve been better. Your video actually put into words parts of why I struggled with it, and why I, as a game, still prefer BotW over TotK, even if TotK is the objectively better game. All is to say, please don’t feel pressured to only put out positive content, as the opposite can, at times, be a much needed change of pace that actually provides valid criticism and helps people like me better understand why supposedly ‘10/10 games’ don’t feel so ‘10/10’
Jesper
2023-08-07 16:25:32 +0000 UTCI haven't heard about the channel before, but I'll check it out!

2023-08-07 13:54:16 +0000 UTCRandom question for Ceave: Have you ever heard of the channel Odyssey Central? He makes video game analytical content like you and has often been called a clone of yours. If you have seen his videos, do you agree, and do you like them? P.S. you are probably my favorite YouTuber and are the only one I support on patreon. I have seen most of your videos several times each. Thanks for making such great content!

2023-08-07 08:25:30 +0000 UTCWhenever I see a new video of yours my mind goes Christmas mode and I sparkle in joy until I find the time to watch your videos. I really love your content and you are the one creator worth fiddling with what Patreon actually is and how to support someone.

2023-08-06 23:18:06 +0000 UTCI'm so glad you opened a patreon, I really like your videos :) I just finished the Hollow Knight video and didn't realize that an hour and half flew by! I could have listened for 10 more hours! And darn, I tried playing Outer Wilds, it looked like the perfect game for me, but for some reason it really TERRIFIED me when I tried 😅 I don't know if it was the completely open space or the fact that the world explodes after X minutes, but yeah... I have to give it another try before your video.

2023-08-06 14:45:51 +0000 UTCI'm so glad to see you back and hopefully taking a more sustainable approach to YouTube. Also thanks for the heads-up on which games you plan to discuss, now I can play them in order to watch the videos.

2023-08-06 07:43:16 +0000 UTCThis is also my first time supporting somebody on Patreon! Ceave's content is like none other on youtube and it's always refreshing to see an upload from him. About his so-called "negative content", I'm going to dive headlong in the opposite direction and say that it was less negative than it could be. There are way, way more negative ways of looking at the content that ceave analyzes, but the key difference is that when Ceave critiques something, sure, it may SEEM negative at first, but it's all because he either has a great love for the game and/or a great respect for the game and it seems more positive than other critiques because it's usually a critique of a mistake that a game made or that a company made that Ceave genuinely likes and it pains him to see it in that state, like with his sunshine video or his Bowser's Fury video. He definitely has much more positive views than I do and they're refreshing to watch because they give me hope that if we can figure these things out, the developers can as well and will expand upon what we liked or criticized about it in a positive way.

2023-08-06 06:34:04 +0000 UTCCeave I cannot express how grateful I am that your content exists, I enjoy analyzing games and franchises in a similar way to you but I never talk about them with people because I'm worried I'll come off as know-it-all-y and I don't want to interrupt other people's enjoyment of the game, but your videos strike a perfect balance between critical, serious analysis of games and just plain fun and I've watched some of your videos with my friends and have been able to talk to them about game criticism more, but in a way where we're both looking forward to see where games go from the parts that we critique. If any channel is worth a donation per month, its yours for all of the outstanding, riveting videos you make. Please keep up all the good work!
Reyna Cruz
2023-08-06 06:31:34 +0000 UTCExcited and on board for all you have planned and hopefully at a pace that works for you. Echoing a few others in that I never had an issue with previous videos being negative or too critical. I could always tell (like with Paper Mario, Nintendo in general) that your exploration of the topics came from the same curiosity that made myself and many others gravitate toward your early Maker videos. Certainly spend time doing what you love, but there's a lot of value in some of your more critical analysis and catspiracy theories. Also just want to say if it weren't for your videos I likely would have bounced off Mario Maker 2 when I first played. And instead your work opened me up to a wider community and a deeper understanding of a game that fundamentally shifted my relationship to my creativity, resulting in an obsessive fascination with making diabolical puzzles that has gone on to ruin my life and those of my dearest friends. Thank you.

2023-08-06 02:31:53 +0000 UTCYeah this is my first time supporting someone on Patron! As soon as the end of the Hollow Knight video rolled around and I saw the Patron icon and immediately clicked it. With the criticism thing I think it's important to call it out in games because some people overlook it. I love TotK and when I watched Ceave's video I started to see some of the obvious flaws that I had overlooked. Great stuff and I'm glad I'm supporting it more directly!

2023-08-06 00:22:00 +0000 UTCQuestion for Ceave, What did you do during your 2 years of no YouTube?
Andrew Medford
2023-08-05 21:14:02 +0000 UTCIn over 15 years of using YouTube I've never subscribed to a Patreon before, but didn't think twice about subscribing here. I've loved the content on the gaming channel for a good while and love the perspective channel even more. I do want to say, I don't get the criticism that the perspective content is too negative. It feels very much like you're just being honest about everything, be it good, bad, or ugly. More importantly, it's your thoughts. I enjoy watching *Ceave* Perspective, and wouldn't want you to omit or tone down any of your opinions for any reason.

2023-08-05 16:42:58 +0000 UTCOn Maker games: Yours was the only channel I've seen discuss the genre beyond SMM2, with games like Megaman Maker and Levelhead. Those are still alive and now there's more indies attempting a Zelda Maker since Nintendo won't. Might there still be content on non-Nintendo Maker games, and what channel would that fall into? On negative content: I actually found it very refreshing since there's no shortage of pure positive coverage of Nintendo games. You always brought a very interesting perspective that I haven't seen in other channels, even among negative ones, and managed to be well-received. Your breakdowns of game design are fascinating whether or not they are critical or... praiseful.
