June Update
Added 2024-06-05 15:00:14 +0000 UTCHello you exceptionally exceptional Patreon people! I hope that all of you are doing wonderfully, that all of you only roll nat 20’s for the rest of your entire DnD campaign and that your home country is going to win the upcoming European Soccer Championship even if your country isn’t competing!
The Subnautica video is online and overall I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
Production on this one was very difficult and chaotic because of me moving.
I often only had time to work on it for a very short amount of time or was working on it in a suboptimal setup - so I’m really happy that the video came together in the end.
The clicks on the video are terrible but I was honestly not expecting much.
It’s an old indie game and thanks to me moving there was an almost two month break so whatever really.
I’ll have to see how the next couple of videos perform, if none of them manages to get some algorithmic traction I’ll probably have to experiment with the format a bit.
Though on the positive side, those videos tend to have really long legs - the Bloodborne video for example somehow managed to get a bit of traction out of nowhere months after release so we’ll see how it goes.
So on to the good news.
I finally managed to find a used copy of Twilight Princess for the incredibly cheap price of only 70€ - what a bargain! Thank you so much Nintendo for making old used games rise faster in value than Gamestop shares! (One day I'll sell my used copy of Super Mario 3D All-Stars and buy a house with the money. )
I’ve already started working on the Twilight Princess video and things have finally settled a bit.
I should be done with it in four to five weeks if nothing major goes wrong.
After that one it’s time for either Celeste (already feeling a bit guilty for how long that one takes to finally get produced) or I’ll do a video on the Paper Mario Remake which is one of my all time favorite games and something people probably enjoy me waffling about.
Both videos will be made - I’ll probably throw a coin to figure out which one to produce first and then go on to ignore the result of the coin toss and do whatever I feel like doing.
Finally - I often get asked if I’ll ever do a video on the Outer Wilds DLC so let’s solve this riddle together.
The answer is yes, I just have to be a bit careful with the timing.
See, this video is very likely not going to do well on YouTube thanks to how the algorithm works - which is fine in theory.
It’s okay to release a video not entirely for the algorithm every once in a while.
I just have to be careful when I release it.
The thing with YouTube’s ad revenue (and pretty much every ad based industry) is that ad revenue rises over the year until it peaks in December (because of Christmas) and then drastically drops down in January (because of no Christmas).
It’s a very noticeable drop.
A click in November/December is roughly worth five times the money a click in January/February is.
What that means for people doing YouTube professionally is that you really have to be on top of your game for the final half of the year and that it doesn’t matter that much if your clicks drop down during the first quarter of the year.
It’s also why channels often drop videos on topics people have been asking for in November/December and often take a break in January.
In short, if you get good traffic in the final quarter of the year it often earns you more than the three quarters before combined.
So my plan is to do videos about topics that are unlikely to pull a lot of traffic (like the Elden Ring or the Outer Wilds DLC) in the first quarter of next year and to focus a bit more on stuff that traditionally works in the second half of this year (wrapping up the Zelda series, Paper Mario, Celeste, etc..) Things are a bit tight financially right now and I hope to be able to balance things out this way while still getting to produce videos on topics that a lot of you wonderful people have been asking for.
Awesome!
Finally a huge thank you to each and every single wonderful person reading this.
Your generous support is currently keeping me afloat and I can’t thank you all enough for it.

Thank you for your support and the kind words! But yeah, I certainly should utilize the Gaming channel a bit more - my current plan is to do some stuff over there when the next 3D Mario finally is revealed alongside the switch successor, but if this takes longer than I initially thought I may do some things over there sooner!

2024-07-11 14:59:45 +0000 UTCI was honestly really surprised they showed so much stuff! My best guess is that the Metroid will be cross generational title - but the new Zelda and the M&L were really great surprises. I think the switch successor might be a bit further away than I initially thought. My best guess would have been that it launches in March 2025, but seeing this line up of games it might be further away. Super hyped for the new Zelda, though!

2024-07-11 14:11:17 +0000 UTCCeave, I just realized something. Scrolling through the recent comments of the last video on the Ceave Gaming channel, there’s TONS of comments asking where you are, saying that you disappeared, or even falsely proclaiming that you’re dead. These people miss you and miss your personality and some of them I’m sure would watch anything you put out even if it’s not in your older format. Yet they don’t know your new channel even exists! I think you should make a video on the Ceave Gaming channel exclusively about Ceave Perspective (or at the very least a community post) because it would help with the monetary situation and help you get more traffic while also letting these people know where you’ve been. I think making two channels was a good solution to not every viewer wanting to watch every type of content, but I still think the channels should cross-reference each other enough for viewers of both channels to be in the loop. On another topic, the Twilight Princess video is my favorite of yours so far. There were a few moments where my jaw nearly dropped from connections I never would have been able to notice on my own and I believe MatPat should be honored that you’re continuing on his legacy. I really loved how the pinboard with the conspiracy theory had all the pins you’d asked us to place in previous videos as well. The attention to detail and dedication to your bits is what amazed me about your older channel from the very beginning. I’m strongly considering getting the highest Patreon tier after your newest video (and I don’t support any other creators on Patreon yet although I’m subscribed to over a hundred channels which shows how much I love your corner of the internet). You’re truly the definition of criminally underrated and I hope the algorithm starts treating your channel nicely soon (although I think announcing it more obviously to the Ceave Gaming channel could help). In the end I likely know less about the algorithm than you but I wasn’t sure if you’d read all the comments asking where you were. I replied to all of those comments from the last six months to tell them about Ceave Perspective (mostly copying and pasting a reply) so I also hope that helps!

2024-07-09 21:50:06 +0000 UTCHey Ceave! I was just thinking about the latest direct, and was curious on your thoughts! What did you think of it for a late direct in the switches life cycle, and what game(s) are you the most excited for?

2024-06-24 18:46:56 +0000 UTCHave you heard of Super Mario 64 Builder? It’s a rom hack for SM64 that’s pretty much 3D Mario Maker I think you should check it out sometime. Also really enjoyed the video

2024-06-08 23:47:13 +0000 UTCShorts might be a good idea. I second this. Lately I have become completely addicted to shorts from all kinds of creators.

2024-06-07 17:54:27 +0000 UTCEvery time I watch one of your videos I learn loads of stuff. You seriously make some of my very favorite YouTube videos ever, so thank you as always for that. I hope that the Elden ring video will do better after the DLC drops in a couple weeks. Just wanted to add a bit to this. I bet you have some really interesting thoughts about things that are not video games. I can guarantee at least 1 person (me) would very much enjoy watching videos about shows or movies or video game adjacent things like the new season or Arcane coming out. I'll bet others would too, but just an idea if you're looking to try new things.

2024-06-07 17:51:21 +0000 UTCsounds like things are starting to settle in a little. As always, all the best for the coming months. As for this algorithmic endeavour, have you considered cutting Shorts from some of your waffling? Shorts views tend to blow up to astronomical proportions for some reason, so perhaps an interesting idea, conclusion from a question or just a highlight of dry humour like "the Dark Souls of Mario" could be turned into a one-minute ad for the main video, potentially drawing in some people.

2024-06-06 15:49:59 +0000 UTCBae, wake up! New Ceave Perspective just dropped! 👀 Since I currently don't have plans to play Subnautica, I can even safely start watching it pretty soon. Hooray! Also definitely looking forward to the Twilight Princess video. I've never managed to really like Wind Waker all that much, despite playing the game multiple times. Something about it just never worked out for me. Still, your video managed to give me a whole new (Ceave) perspective and appreciation for the game. Now compared to that, while I think Twilight Princess has its flaws, it's a game I actually like a lot and have quite a bit of nostalgia for. This just makes me all that more exciting to hear what you have to say about it. Twilight Princess feels like a game that everything has already been said about, and yet you still always manage to give me an entirely new (Ceave) perspective on the games you talk about, so can't wait for that to happen here, lol. Hope you've managed to settle in fine after the move!

2024-06-05 17:38:53 +0000 UTCGood to hear the move went well, I hope it continues to be smooth! The subnautica video probably has to be one of my favourite videos on the perspective channel so far; the structure is so well done as you tell everything in a perfect order so your point unfolds brilliantly. Found it particularly interesting as someone who's never played subnautica. I really hope the algorithm begins to let you win a few matches of metaphorical rock-paper-scissors, you honestly deserve it as all the stuff you make is such good quality. Best wishes!

2024-06-05 17:06:11 +0000 UTCNo your eyes tricked you not! The first part was from the wii version and later it was the HD remake. I generally like to use the newer footage if an HD remake is around but here I thought it made sense to first use the old Metroid footage when comparing the games so that it is clear that Metroid is the older game.

2024-06-05 16:09:41 +0000 UTCHello Ceave and congratulation for you successful move and the copy of Twilight Princess which will earn you an house on a yacht one day. The Subnautica's video was very interesting, especially because I knew very little about it not being exactly my cup of gaming tea. The bit about the lovecraftian's aesthetics was especially interesting in making me better understanding some things that now feels plainly in sight. Speaking of sight, a curiosity: have you captured footage from different Metroid Prime versions for this video? Or my eyes have tricked me?
