Sneak Peek - An early preview of the future of Tasker

Here's my current idea for Tasky, a very simplified version of Tasker that anyone can use.

The idea is that when a user first installs Tasker they get a choice of Tasky, or full blown Tasker.

If they choose Tasky, they'll get what you see in the video. Users will be able to switch between the 2 versions at will.

Of course this is all very early and will most probably change when the final version is out but I thought I could share what my ideas for it are so far.

What do you think? :) Any feedback on what you see here?

Thanks in advance!

Root is not really that essential for Tasker so I think users can also greatly benefit from Tasker even without root :) I think having both options is the best way to go.

Me too, I might use tasky on my professional phone. It don't have root so I think Tasker is too powerful and contain too much things to be used on this device. Many users don't have root so the tasky could be for non root user and Tasker for root user, what do you think ?

Cool! :D That'll be great to see if people that already use Tasker will like to switch to this simpler version too...

Permissions will be handled like they are today. If people need profiles with advanced permissions they will have to learn how to grant them. :) Otherwise just don't use those. About showing an active profile, I guess I can use the green letters like Tasker does? I don't know much about design so maybe someone else will have a better idea...

This was done yesterday as a proof of concept :P Nothing's working, it's just a hollow UI right now. And yes, Tasky will share its options with Tasker.

João Dias

Thanks! Yeah, I actually know that one. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the feedback! :) Yeah, it's essential that you can switch at any time in my opinion. Use Tasky to get your feet wet and gently move on to Tasker when you're ready.

João Dias

I think this is a great idea. I like the clean interface too. I might even use the simpler interface for my own profiles even though I am an intermediate user. Neat!

Looks good. How will you handle if a profile that you import has certain permission needs (like the ones you set with ADB?) I can imagine you don't want users of Tasky to be confronted with advanced stuff. Furthermore how will the home screen of Tasky show if the profile is active (as in prerequisites are met).

Mark Leeuwis

Awesome. How long has this been in the works? Also, will Tasky still have the theming options tasker has got?

+1, maybe you could take some good ideas by looking into shortcut app (it's an apple app for automate many things).

Cool! I was wondering if this would be a separate app or not. Love the mode switching idea though. Hopefully it gives a better gateway into Tasker for newcomers.
