AutoVoice Sneak Peek - Trigger Alexa Routines!

This could revolutionize Smart Home for Tasker!

Suddenly any device that you can control with the Alexa app you can now also control with Tasker!

That means that potentially thousands of different Smart Home products can now be controlled from Tasker! 😁 You don't even need an echo! You can simply install the Alexa app (which is free) and it should work!

This uses the AutoVoice Smart Home skill for Alexa and is currently in invite-only beta.

If you want to be part of the beta please follow the procedure below:

That's it! You can now control all of your Smart Home devices with this action! 😄

Please expect some bugs along the way but hopefully it just works!

Enjoy home automation on another level in Tasker! 😎

AutoVoice Sneak Peek - Trigger Alexa Routines!

That's awesome :D Super cool use case, thanks!

I took this a bit further (maybe it'll interest somebody), I took and old Logitech joystick which is connected to my PC and I linked its buttons to the Alexa routines. Basically I can turn on and off lights around the house with the joystick buttons. The whole flow is this: Joystick -> AutoHotkey script (PC) -> Join API (PC) -> Tasker AutoApps command -> AutoVoice Trigger Alexa Routine action. Thx, Joao, for the kind support!

if anybody else is struggling (like I did), the TLDR procedure is this: 1. Ask for a test account (from Joao) 2. Add the Autovoice skill to Alexa (link in the confirmation email from Joao) 3. Create the special Tasker action with a new device in it 4. Create an Alexa routine triggered by the new device (it'll show up in devices)

That's awesome! :) Thank you very much for testing!!

I managed to get it to work (thank you, Joao, for support!), and it runs lightning fast. This is a game changer for me, as I've been struggling for years to trigger Alexa without voice commands. I even created a developer account at Amazon, but the programming part overwhelmed me. Thank you, Joao!

Hope it's working! :)

João Dias

Awesome! :) Glad it works now!!

Okay... Yes, I had the non-beta version enabled. After disabling that one and searching again the beta version appeared as well. When I clicked on it.. it showed as enabled but didn't show up as enabled under the Dev tab on my skills. Disabled that one as well and then went back to the beta invite email and was finally able to get it enabled. Thanks.. it does work now and will play more with it later tonight! Sorry for the problem!

Robert Burton

hhmm, did you maybe already have the normal non-beta skill enabled? Try searching for AutoVoice in Alexa Skills and see if the regular AutoVoice Smart Home Skill is already enabled. If it is, disable it. If it isn't, enable and then disable it. After that try the beta link again. hope this helps!

João Dias

Excellent! This is will be very useful. Thanks!

Jay

I followed the link to enable the Alexa skill but when I press the button to enable it.. it says account linking required... no matter how many times I press it. The AutoVoice skill shows up under My Skills but says the same thing there. Would it be because I use different emails for Google and Alexa?

Robert Burton

Yeah, I've seen that one before too.. haha!

João Dias

Yeah, this is exciting! :)

João Dias

Added! THanks :)

Have you seen the paper where they trigger specific smart home commands on all the different systems just with an laser through a window? That blew my mind 🤯 Do not find the link atm... This one was related: https://youtu.be/2i1hrywDwPo Aah, it was on another channel: https://youtu.be/ozIKwGt38LQ

very neat trick, indeed. Right now I use Autoinput to navigate through to the routines and trigger them. I takes a lot of time and the Alexa app is finicky at that, so... pretty great!

Message sent! This is exciting
