Bang Chan "Railway" | (Stray Kids) REACTION

Thanks Savallion, great recommendation for October! 🧛🏻‍♂️🧟

Bang Chan "Railway" | (Stray Kids) REACTION

Comments

Bangchan, Felix, Changbin, and Seungmin have a music video called 'Up All Night' from a couple years ago that is also very halloweeny. It's a vibe, and is funny while still being slightly creepy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL4kM5KheYk

The 'joke' is the sexual innuendo in the lyrics, that it isn't "trains" he is talking about. Chris(Bang Chan) tends to use sexual innuendos in songs to give listeners multiple interpretations and also(IMO) to cover up/hide what the song is 'actually' about. This song, IMO, is about the part of himself that is angry and other negative things that he doesn't like about himself that he locks away. It's his dark side that he locks away, signified by the chains in the video. In the beginning the chains are broken and his bad side escapes, in the end when confronting himself, his dark side is put back in chains. There is a shot in the end of the video of the chains connecting back to the bad side when the good side is forcing him back, in the shape of train tracks. The bad side of himself that escapes hurts people, like anger and other negative parts of ourselves can end up doing. The endless cycle of the song when paired with the visuals of the live performance is that it is a never ending cycle of locking away that bad side only for it to break free and he has to lock it up again. "This train never sleeps" is the constant awareness that he has to keep locking those bad parts of himself away. His duo song 'Red Lights' also uses sexual innuendos, but it's about an obsession with work and no sleep because of that obsession.

I love that you take 20+ min for a Song reaction! I have listend to this Song a good amount of times but never really noticed alot of the stuff you pointed out. If you want to do another Stray kids Song, I would recommand Maniac. It has some Frankenstein references so it would fit the Halloween topic really well😆😂

Abby

AH, ok that's funny!

OK one more comment since you had asked if all the Stray Kids do solo / unit songs: They did a collection (I don't know if it counts as an album, or an EP, or something else) where they ALL did solo songs that released at the same time. There was another set where they did ALL two-person songs and this is why they are released as official Stray Kids tracks, they kind of do it separately, as a group. So alongside Railway they released 7 other solo tracks and they ALL have videos. It's glorious. The other song I requested for spooky month is "Escape" which is part of the set of 2-person songs. Bang Chan - Railway Felix - Unfair I.N. - Hallucination Lee Know - Youth Hyunjin - So Good Changbin - Ultra Han - Hold my Hand Seungmin - As We Are Of these other ones, personally Ultra and Youth are my favorites but they are all pretty good. To make things even crazier, they also did a live performance where they swapped so they were doing OTHER member's solo songs. Han did Railway, for example.

And then also to explain the actual meaning, obviously we don't have the creator's take but fans will pick apart these videos and the most common take is something like this, filtered through my own thoughts: This video takes place in Bang Chan's mind, which is a prison. There are two sides of him, the light side and the dark side. At the start of the video, Dark Chan wakes up and is HUNGRY so he breaks free. I think you're right, it's about obsession but also about this feeling of never being able to stop and take a break. Bang Chan (and all the other Stray Kids) are notorious for working constantly. They'll release full albums that they did while being on tour for several months, it's crazy. I think Dark Chan represents his immense pressure to perform and keep creating even if its becoming unhealthy for him. After Dark Chan gets out and has his fun, Light Chan has to put him back in the cage. That's why he looks scared, Light Chan comes after him with the stick (I think its the handle part of a cane he's got in that shot?). You can also notice that Dark Chan has the white eye on one side and after they fight, Light Chan also has a white eye but its on the opposite side. So they are mirrors of each other and its implied that he always has some part of that darkness even when he's "light chan" because he gets the odd eye. And then the live performance the song itself is the same but it starts with Chan dragging a chair up to a stage and then at the end, he takes off his shirt to reveal sinister markings on his back and he falls backward off the back of the stage. So it connects with the end of this video (dragging the chair away) and then the beginning of this video (abruptly waking up from a sleeping position). The theory is that he's in this constant battle, back and forth, like this endless train. I just love it! If you're curious about some of the visual shots they did a "making of" video for this, its combined with another one. I don't mean to recommend this as a reaction, just in case you're curious. I've really been enjoying their Making Of videos, they do them for almost every one. I'll also drop a short link to Bang Chan saying the song is about trains just because I think its funny. Recently a fan gifted him a hat that says, "ask me about trains, I'm an expert". Making of: https://youtu.be/vKLLjUgl_nw?si=ne3PcdHM3dUeHj6O "it's about trains": https://youtube.com/shorts/oRDzZcy6U-8?si=qOA7SvduIvQK_crf

Hahaha first of all thank you so much Tim I loved this. It feels so good to see appreciation for Bang Chan's voice, a lot of people don't notice him because others in the group are highlighted for vocals. To explain the train joke: when Bang Chan is asked "what is Railway about", he giggles hysterically and then says "its about trains". From the video, and from the lyrics, it's very clearly NOT about trains. The joke is that he refuses to explain these more "provocative" songs and will sometimes tease fans when they propose a darker/sexier meaning. There's similar jokes about a lot of these, "Escape is about running away", "Drive is about driving", "Red lights is about getting stuck in traffic". All these songs have at least some sexy lyrics and definitely a darker meaning.
