Way of the Primal Sage (D&D Homebrew)

A monk who follows the way of the Primal Sage believes that they are an extension of the primal forces of nature. To them, ki is their natural connection to nature empowering their body. This connection to nature allows them to manipulate it to their advantage. Many monasteries that focus on this connection are often found with wild animals coexisting peacefully within their walls. Some even have walls formed entirely out of molded stones and vines. Most monks who practice these traditions have found themselves fighting against and for the forces of evil and good, so long as they are able to aid what they view as the natural order.

Druidic Arts (Level 3)

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can use your ki to duplicate the effects of certain spells. As an action, you can spend 2 ki points to cast Barkskin, Animal Friendship, Speak with Animals, or Summon Beast, without providing material components. Additionally, you gain the Shillelagh cantrip if you don’t already know it. When casting these spells, they do not need to be concentrated on, and will last for their full duration. You can upcast these spells by spending one additional ki point per spell level.

Wise Defense (Level 3)

*This is an optional replacement for “Unarmored Defense”*

Your Armor Class can now be calculated by adding 13 plus your Wisdom modifier, rather than 10 plus your Dexterity and Wisdom modifiers. At level 10, this increases to 15 plus your Wisdom modifier.

Wise Strikes (Level 6)

You gain the ability to attack with unarmed strikes using your Wisdom modifier rather than your Strength or Dexterity modifiers. When calculating damage, you can also use your Wisdom modifier rather than your Strength or Dexterity modifiers.

Nature's Wrath (Level 11)

If you spend one ki point, claws and talons emerge from your hands and feet. For one minute, your unarmed attacks do additional magical slashing damage. Roll one additional damage die, appropriate for your level, per successful attack.

Beast King (Level 17)

You can spend three ki points and until the end of your next turn you enter a primal state in which you draw upon the powers of nature to enhance your physical body. While in this state, your armor class increases by two, and your unarmed attacks have advantage until you either leave this state as a bonus action, or the transformation ends when the time expires.
