In A Lion’s Conquest, near the end of the story, Ric is recovering (badly) from a fall while on campaign. He returns to Rome much the same, but things start to change for him in minor ways slowly at first, before it all spirals out of control seemingly at once.
The empire is revolting and he seems the obvious culprit for its failings. New rulers are needed and Ric has to be deposed, whichever way his opposition seems right.
In the end Vic can’t save him.

This was such an old sketch but my partner has been pestering me to finally finish it- and I’m so happy I did!!! I love little character interactions like this. The initial idea was, Vicus is performing a mock battle in some way, posing as a Greek legend, him having been a gladiator and all.
It was meant to be a party, but I can imagine Ric addressing him in a private moment afterwards. (And Ric retelling a joke he heard at said party and cracking up all over again.. Vic is once again reminded of how madly in love he is lol)
Ok that aside, I’m obsessed with Rics big ol chompers

The ease in which they interact with is just so obvious. These are two people that so obviously care deeply for each other, but might not have taken that final step yet. It's just... It's in every little inch of their being, etched in like a stain to fine fabric, and I'm so here for it! 🥰 Also, I absolutely adore the heart in Rictus' ruby necklace 😁❤️ The chompers and both of their smiles goes without saying 🤭❤️
