Could someone pls explain what he meant by sidechaining the bass to the hi hats?

Kofta Ball

Love this so much. The time signature, the Unreal Tournament factor of it that you aptly mentioned. How long would you say you worked on this, just out of curiosity? It seems you have innovated so many production techniques in this, with the gates, the morphing and the Rhythmizer, I was just curious as to how long it took you to make this great piece of music.

Kieran Unsworth

Who was the artist inspiration you mentioned in the video? Would love to study more of his music, cheers!

Nick Spann

Thank you so much for this video! It was neat seeing your workflow. Also the end was hilarious when you held the peace sign up haha.

Please do more vids like this!!! Also in my opion, all tutrials about how made some things, but no one about how to think to create certain things

Honestly seeing Nik walking through the backyard looking for twigs to use as snares was perfection to me. I know it's not on topic but it would be cool to see how such things make it into a track though :)

Vincent

Agreed wholeheartedly on the drum design comments, specifically adding synthetic sine layers for snares and especially hihat/cymbal/noise perx design, particularly AMed noise for pseudo-live hihats and then adding convolution verb on all of the above, going more in depth with the previous videos you've done on the subject!

GXG

It'd be awesome more videos like this. I suggest a video on drum design. The one you have explaining Superior Drumer was very interesting, I see you use synth based drums much more now. I remember the video in which you explain convolution used on synthetic drums to give them a more acoustic vibe. You once mentioned for the snare in the Get Deaded track you used mutiple layers to make it sounds that way. I'm sure you could go in depth about this topic. Cheers!

fuck me!

Would love to see a video regarding routing and also another one with how you balance your mixes, or do creative mixing decisions when it comes to achieving the sound you wanted to have. A Pleasure Model and Shibuya Pet Store walktrough would be amazing. Another good idea is where you basically produce a track and record for an hour or two, kind of a masterclass. I know you did a masterclass for Haarlem's e-music conservatory, shame the audio didn't record :(

Exodus or Could This Be would be awesome to see.

I love these tracks breakdowns!! please keep them up. I personally would love more depth in knowing about the sidechain. How do you setup your sidechain, what instruments, or in general, what do you use in the SC triggers channels, grouping of different sidechains etc.

Tidmey

Micro Organism or Hyenas <3 <3 so beautiful.

Santino

The Divide & Conquer Remix would be incredible to see, the sound design to this day still blows my mind

Thanks Nik, love the cymbal and top end processing! Do you do any specific processing on a drum group, and on the main stereo mix? im assuming its something simple like Pro L2?

cb1

Would love to see Running Blind broken down. That's my favourite track

Can you maybe so something on your work flow directly? It seems from this everything you do is so intentional but I seem to only find cool rhythms and sounds by accident

that sample library looks like it would be pretty handy

Would do anything to see a breakdown of "Stigma"! In terms of recent tunes, "Asteroids (VIP)", "Anomaly" etc would be fantastic!

Probably all gone, but The Tide , Brainstitch or Block Control. Program or Imperial.

Mofisch

Would love to see "Asteroids (Noisia Remix)"

Marshall Holland

Would love to see routing of your projects ! Because in this video i've seen loot of routing and don't understand every time what is going where :) Big up !

man I'd be so interested to see how you deliver this music to the client. what specs are industry standard (file format, stems/stereo, loudness targets, etc)

I’ll go ahead and be basic, but I would kill to see Dead Limit. That boomerang-y bass line is still one of the wildest things I’ve heard.

Wow thank you! super informative, would love to see more :) for example "Motion Blur" walktrough

Any of your tunes broken down like this is more than welcome!

Zsombor Deményi

Thank you for doing this, looking under the hood adds a lot to the experience for me, the music is inspiring to no end on its own but oh wow I will follow any topic you feel interested to talk about, thank you again.

Noisia - The Hole

pls more of this!

I would love to see a break-down of how you create neuro bassline patterns that flow well without being forced as well as a mixing/FX guide. Noisia & Camo & Krooked collab) would be SICK as you've perfected the bassline/chords mix-down in this track - I've beeeen DYING to know how this is done and how you can create your own unique chord/bass layers that glue together perfectly. https://youtu.be/H1N5tCNVUm0?t=634

Big ask as I imagine project files etc. may be lost / extinct / guarded by a time lord but would love to see an overview of the Exodus instrumental. Easily one of the most game-changing songs of past times for me. That along with Cannonball, the drum intro is 🥴

Tom

🤍

This is great! Would love to see Shibuya Pet Store, Reptilians or Hold Your Colour Remix next! 😊

Timmie van Engelen

Yes this is sick! , please more of this. Seeing get Deaded would be incredible or tentacles :D

Gowendub

I'm most interested in Collider music video explanation because after watching it a few times I have more questions than answers. Either that or Sinkhole breakdown, I would love to hear the story of that Florida man because I genuinely don't know what-what exactly is taking place.

Asteroids remix breakdown would be awesome✌️

Scartip

Yes, Asteroids remix breakdown would be really cool

Scartip

More stuff like this would be sick. Good shit.

amazing not sure what to ask as its so clear that its about music maybe explain how you level and use reverb... or how you would level a bass sound with drums///

michs 29

please do a video on Pleasure Model, or Deep Down, or anything off of Outer Edges. love this video!

Eric Camarillo

super cool. more of these would super awesome!!

Tom Finster

Nik, thanks a lot!! Will be the same video of Hardskin? Also want to see how to make same intro synth and huge automatizations <3

xend

Would love to see Asteroids Remix done like this - especially is you mention it was very live synth heavy.

Joe Bennett

Great video! I'd love to see either Dzjengis or Cleansing dissected in a similar fashion

Mazz

Great tut, cheers! It would be very interesting to see a video of you just doing sound design.

Super tight. More of these! <3

Santino

Thank you guys, much appreciated! ❤️
