Patreon Tutorial - Making Drums

How do you download the Vimeo videos? I can't figure this out!

Dan Bridson

Super interesting. Would love to learn how to make iconic D&B drum sounds, like the huge rimshot, the tight noise snare, when and why to use FM, and what snares you can’t make without organic samples. Noisia have such incredible and diverse snares. Show us the way!

CORRUPTA

Thanks for uploading on VIMEO, this helps me to download it in full HD without worrying, please KEEP it up like this. Can't wait to play this drum one how you approach sidechain on hats & rides, thanks again!

Rewatching this for the 100th time. This time it inspired me to attempt an inspection of the kick transients in "Long Gone". Wish I had the stems just for learning purposes because those kicks are just so impactful. Upon inspection it looks like the transients are wavefolded but it seems to be a fool's errand because there is so many other things going on. Still fun though. Thanks again like always, back to the kick mines.

Santino

"i mean it sounds like ass but you can" the loudest lol

wigb

Thank you very much for these!

Is this video unavailable now? I'm on producer teir but its saying "sorry because of its privacy setting this video cant be viewed here" please help!!

Douglas Mcleod

This was so fantastic! Super excited for more drum stuff, thanks Nik! <3

Hexic

Thought provoking as usual, thanks Nik!

David May

no tut in Oct? :(

melle

Whens the next tut? :)

BERRIX

What a great tutorial. Really cool insight on how to use Kick2 as an EQ for kick transients. I would love to see a tutorial with your 2020 views on making acoustic drum breaks from drum samplers like addictive 2. Your drum breaks (and teebee's) are the best and that knowledge would be amazing.

Timothy Szakacs

nice

5EPHRO5_patron

Superior Drummer :)

VISION

hahaha good point :D

VISION

Great tutorial ! Thank you! :)

Liked that introduction. Now I'd like to see a video in which a transient of kick2 will be combined with another tail.

Malte Beyer

Great video! Thank you!!

Martin Åberg

Thanks for the video, very informative stuff. Do you guys use Superior Drummer or AD for acoustic layers?

Arttu Tick

The Gate in Kick2 is to control playback length with MIDI - short notes only plays the click etc. :) We really enjoy your chiseled jawbones, but next time maybe move the plugin interface :>

Thank you for this video, I would like to go even further with this and know the implementation with sidechain and how to approach it if with midi, other synths or the sidechain source

Tidmey

Nik doesn't like click in his kick :)

Luca Romagnoli

Learned a lot from this, loving the in depth explanations

Gowendub

this was insanely helpfull ! Thanks a lot

found the click vs tail tonality very interesting. i think i never listened to drums that way. i tried to recreate the Diplodocus rmx snare a while ago and also noticed the very inharmonic overtones and was surprised it worked that well. Also ... i think basic tutorials sometimes have the best insights, because the difference of perspective on ground level operations can sometimes make a huge impact. So thanks for covering the basis.

Tom Finster

What it means is that you can theoretically get away with a 'real' sounding harmonic at any multiple of 7Hz, which gives you way more freedom than having to go by multiples of 200 or similar.

VISION

The harmonics being a common denominator of the two skins is a super helpful insight! Thanks!

As Einstein said, "If I knew what i was doing it wouldn't be research."

Arne Hanna

YES!!! this made my day seeing this on here. Absolutely cant wait to watch this!!! <3

I was just waiting for this, awesome!

kicks, snares, and half a cookie. What more could one ask for in a tutorial.

Bob Gibson

We've been blessed! If youre ever feeling inspired to talk more on the subject im sure you could record a few more videos in an afternoon or two and sell it to patreons as a one time additional purchase. Some topics could be acoustic drum design, tails / reverb & physical space, and working with drums in the mix (ie sidechaining approach for different areas in the spectrum, EQing, and drum bus processing)

Thanks Nik amazing tut. But the aprt with the snare drum and the 2 different sides. You said if the skins have a 7hz difference then the fundemental becomes 7Hz. How woul you mix that? Using overtone of 7hz? So like 70hz or 140hz/280hz?

Also, I love Bitwig, I can see y'all really loving the modulation system.

Santino

"I don't know that limiter" next shirt.

Santino

I like your Masters on the Sevdaliza stuff Nik!

OMG....!!!

Nick Spann

Yes!! Thank you!
