Producer Tier: Tutorial (November)

Here's the first of two tutorials this month, due to one missing in November (hence the title).

Nik takes you through his basic process of making 'real' drums in Superior Drummer 3. Enjoy!

Producer Tier: Tutorial (November)

So so so helpful. I’ve been using AD2 but I think I’ll try SD3. Loved all the layer control workflow, so thank you for that.

CORRUPTA

Amazing stuff! Thank you! <3

Ckek26

amazing tutorial btw

Altered Perception

would love to see a follow up where you incorporate it into a DnB track!

Altered Perception

My dumb a$$ didnt even know you can split bands in pro-q. Thx for this an the tutorial, very interesting!

Tom

Great Vid! Def would like to see more SD3 techniques. Big up

cosign on doing another SD3 tutorial! would love to see how you do toms as well. got a lot of ideas from just watching this. the break at ~13:15 with the tom fill is hard!!!!!

Please do more of these! Although I don't use Superior Drummer the techniques can all translate. I am using Melda's mDrummer and I absolutely love it. Have you tried that one? It's got this killer rhythm engine and drum synths you can layer up with the acoustic kits. I'm particularly fond of the random sound/pattern generators. It's brilliant!

ill.GATES

same unfortunately - really hoping they fix it :(

Joey Noble

looks like they changed the system, so you can't watch older videos. Everything before december is unavailablefor me

Gianclaudio

huh. cant watch the video. anybody has the same issue?

Working Unit

Really helpfull one, thank u and please do a second part!

Yes! Please do a part 2

Working Unit

+1 on a part 2, that focuses on merging organic and synthetic layers

m00seT

Awesome, would love a more detailed part II.

Very nice tutorial again. Definitely part 2 of that episode would be awesome. For example, how would you edit/process those breaks further (that were made with SD3) and how to combine them with synthetic layers. Also, maybe some tips when pushing the drums as loud as possible (how to have loud and heavy drums without squashing the low end for example)

Now, where's the button that I can press to like this again? Awesome stuff! Just bought AD2 and this translates very well on that too! More things like this please!

I guess the decision to layer synth drums is track/mix dependant. Do you keep SD3 and the processing live whilst designing other elements in the track. Or commit to a final bounce of drums and use that to dictate the mix and placement of the other instruments? I guess you don't have the CPU limitations I do ☺️

Graham Cooke

Nik, thank you so much for this video. When you make breaks, do you generally also add a main kick & snare over top of these breaks and just cut out/sidechain the break drums when you write? I just got SD3 for Christmas and I'm totally hooked (am also a drummer).

Joey Gold

I have used AD, and loved it. The 'drum solo' in Get Deaded is AD :) N

VISION

Wow ! Really great tutorial, I've learn a lot of things ! I always struggle to make acoustic drums I think it will help me ! Thanks a lot ! :)

Very inspiring. Thank you.

Great tutorial, Thank you!

Uriel

would love to see how these drum break combine with other drums into a track

Douglas Mcleod

Thanks Nik, this is great. If you ever do a deeper tutorial it would be great to see how you combine these "real" breaks with synth layers. Im learning something new every time and really appreciate the content, its well worth the money!

cb1

Nik this was amazing! Thanks for sharing.

I was hoping for an awesome drum tutorial like this. Thanks Nik!

Nils Maes

This is a truly awesome tutorial. Very interesting with obviously great results!

Tyler Carson

Thanks for this extensive tutorial on drum design. Been a fond user of Addictive Drums 2, but SD3 looks hella fun. Especially because of the routing and bigger collection of drum hits. I feel like AD2 is more limited but can also get you interesting results. Have you ever tried AD2? Also, would love to hear a follow-up on this tutorial, especially on the creative processing side of things.

Thank you Nik another great tutorial i learn somthing everytime you are a master of you're craft !

Yung-e

No, I have these on the secondary non SSD drive.

VISION

Sounds like you've been listening to Tony Allen. RIP the master drummer.

Arne Hanna

Thx Nik. Awesome tutorial! Definately interested in a more detailed one and also especially combining analogue with synth drums.

Malte Beyer

Hell ya!

5EPHRO5_patron

great tutorial

Hey Nik where do you store the big library/es for superior drummer? on the OS 1 TB nvme SSD? Thanks!

Tidmey

Welcome to ASMR with Nik. Today's episode - Oatmeal.

Samuel Hansen

Thanks, I’m seeing the advantage in sound design mode and song writing mode. I’ve been working on a kit for like 3 hours. Good fun. Thank you

Mike Miller (Penurious)

YES NIK PLEASE! MORE DRUMS!

This is a fantastic tutorial. I could listen to drum setups and percussive sound design forever. Love it and can't wait for the next one.

Tyler Carson

Go have a look at one of the tutorials they did for Armajet in earlier patreon videos, There is a processed break in there.

Joe Bennett

really great content, it's my favorite thing to play with band frequencies. A lot of possibilities to mess with. Let's make some drums! Cute picture on the back btw daddy Nik

gunther

Omg can’t wait, another amazing content!

gunther

that slow zoom makes me tense up, i thought he was going to spill his food hahaha

Santino

"you shouldn't sample this" *plays more

Santino

thank you so much

Xantorias Lor

this video is literally a dream come true

Xantorias Lor

Loved the tutorial! Def would want to see a more detailed one as you mentioned there at the end. Gonna have a lot of fun playing around with this sd3 :D Would love to see some kind of bass riff and/or reese tut from scratch (or not) video with fm8 or serum maybe. Big up! 🤘
