Wow...I learned so much about how translation programs work! I think they are wonderful too (although I have no daily use for them) with the same qualifier you put in: as long as the human reading the translation is fluent. It's not unlike teaching a child with language issues who thinks very concretely what idioms mean (I have experience with this)--sometimes the results are equally hilarious!
