Hello! Here’s an update :)

Hello my amazing and patient patrons!!

I come to you from my Brooklyn apartment where I’ve weathered the last 2 years and change. There are a lot of beautiful and difficult memories here, and it’s interesting to be back in the midst of all that. But I am feeling pretty at peace. And I want to share with you all what you can expect coming up!

Music

I am working on several originals and one cover that I am planning on releasing (distributing) this year. I’m not sure whether I will release the album as a full thing this year, but I will at least start the process of doing singles and music videos. I want to steer this big ship to include all of this beautiful folk music we have discovered and focus on continuing the legacy with original folk and indie pop music. I will send you all demos as soon as I have them, which should be VERY soon!!

Obviously my normal short cover content and YouTube content will continue as well :).

Tour

Yep. We will definitely be doing a short initial run some time in the near future to see how the touring life goes for me. This is obviously something I’ve wanted to do forever, and we are taking steps in the right direction. A side note on that: know that when any artist that isn’t at full “pop star” level is touring, they are not making money. They could well be losing it. Touring is incredibly expensive, but it is worth it to build the community around your music and connect with the audience in real time. It is obviously so SO worth it. That’s WHY we make the music :). So in that case, I REALLY appreciate you all!! This isn’t something I could even consider if it weren’t for you. We will take our community to the next level by making actual spaces for us to enjoy music and story together. How exciting!!

Community

I am in the process of designing an internship for some savvy, motivated and kind soul who is going to help me maintain my social media (uploads, basic comment responses etc) as well as editing, allowing me to spend more time writing, practicing and engaging more with you all on Patreon!! Finally. I’ve wanted/needed to do this for a long time. It’ll take a while to make that hire, but I can’t wait to have more time for the creative and community projects that I love. And again, I couldn’t even consider it if it weren’t for you all. So thank you.

New merch for Patreon

I am just beginning the process of designing new merch for our community! We deserve an upgrade :). So be on the lookout for that in your tier!

Twisted Translations

I am not currently planning new videos on this channel. However, Tom and I want to leave the door open (cue Bruno Mars) so that if we come up with an idea that’s just too good, we can make it. That’s why I started making YouTube videos in the first place. So to be able to let that channel exist as a place for just super inspired content is such a privilege. Truly. So I won’t make any promises there, nor will I be actively sifting through requests. But I’m not shutting anything down.

Livestreams will be back and hopefully even more fun with my music friends in NYC! I also hope to use Patreon as a sort of blog/vlog to let you all into my process as I write this music and practice.

As for me, I am re-entering treatment for ARFID and my food allergies, so my content production is going to be a little slower as I TRULY take the time to learn to trust my body again. The pandemic made everything so much worse, so it is time for me to actually clear out a few things in my life to allow for healing to happen. I’ll open up about that online I’m sure.

I’m spending my time right now shedding (a NYC word for practicing), writing, and moving my body, all things I deprioritized to content production last year. Without those things I have no longevity. So we’re taking stock of what’s important right now, and it feels good :)

I hope you all had WONDERFUL holidays (despite the circumstances) and I’ll be back with videos and music later this week!

Thank you immensely for sticking around and sticking with each other. I can’t wait to see where we go!

Hello! Here’s an update :)

I didn't know there was a term for being a picky eater. I was revolted by many types of food as a child. I had to go for weekly tests at doctor's office. I forced my self to get used to foods. I could not eat rice until I turned 23. I am eating much better now. But, some of the foods that I found revolting are foods that I found out I should not be eating. For the foods that I needed to add, I found that preparing them a different way could make them less revolting. For instance, I found that I liked brocolli when served on a potato with cheese.

Hi Malinda -- thanks so much for the extensive and detailed update. So pleased to see that you seem to have a robust plan that should make both you and us happy. My favourite line was: 'I want to steer this big ship to include all of this beautiful folk music we have discovered and focus on continuing the legacy with original folk and indie pop music.' As someone who's been eager for a new album of original music and kinda missing the more complete YouTube content (whether music videos or the behind-the-scenes mini-documentaries) I look forward to what the new year will bring. If I were to prioritise all the items you mentioned, I think it would go something like this: • Your health (ARFID etc) • New original music • YouTube content (I know TikTok has brought many new fans into the fold, but I still appreciate the more polished videos) • Livestreams • Cover music Not sure where to put touring on this list. I'd love to see you perform live, but being way over here in Europe and covid still a serious issue, it's difficult to say when that will be a practical reality. But insofar as touring anywhere can help advance your career and introduce more people to your music and talent, I'm fully in support of that even if I can't benefit personally. I hope your roadmap for 2022 brings you a happy and rewarding new year!

Cat, check our cases we are way below NYC and most of the blue states with fewer deaths and fewer hospitalizations than CA, NY, etc. We also have been aggressive in treatments of cases resulting in fewer deaths. We have lots of hospital beds available although not needed. And we didn't send tens of thousands to their deaths in nursing homes. We are not anti-vax ...we are pro science...the real science....which says masks don't work to stop viruses. If they did NY and CA wouldn't have any cases and Texas and Florida would be over-run. But the actual science is the opposite of this. Natural immunity is real. Eating indoors with your family is safe. Going outside without a mask is perfectly safe. Etc. PS Texas and Florida are the 3 and 4th most populous states so the difference between them and NY and CA is approach not population. CA is a 'warm' southern state too...not like NY ....but look at Los Angeles cases even with restrictions. Follow the real science not the televised science...

It is wonderful to hear that you are taking the time you need for yourself amidst all the chaos that has been these strange few years. You have an amazing gift, one that you have dedicated so much care, work, and love toward, and to see more and more people experiencing and engaging with the art you create daily brings a smile, I believe, to all of our faces. The fact you have been so open with all of us about your journey, and all the challenges that have come with it, is such a blessing, particularly for those who may feel alone in their own struggles. Seeing someone they look up to sharing their own vulnerability is just as important a gift you give as the very music you create, and I hope you see that. I know we all wish you continued success in your endeavors, and I hope that, even in the craziest moments of your journey, that you never feel afraid to take the time to just care for yourself. As someone who deals with a multitude of medical issues, I often have to remind myself (or more often than not, be reminded by my amazing wife) that I am human, and that there is no shame in taking the time I need for healing. It is as if each of us has only so much energy, so much of ourselves to expend each day. Whether we pour it into what we create, or share it with those we engage with, we often only have so much we can give before we need to recover ourselves. And should we choose to overspend, to push ourselves a bit too far as it were, than much like pulling too much from credit, we find ourselves forced to pay this proverbial loan back with interest. And the longer we put it off, the longer it takes us to recover. (I think all of us can recount times where we've burned ourselves out so badly that it takes twice as long just to get back to "normal" again). We are all here to support you in this journey in whatever way we can, and are so thankful that you've brought us along for the ride. So as you take whatever moments you need to find your "normal" again, just remember that you have thousands upon thousands upon thousands of us giving our own "energy" to you, pouring out our love and support, hoping that your light continues to shine brighter each day.

Thank you so much for such an extensive update. Looking forward to your future goodness! 😊

i'm pretty sure she doesn't want to go to a place where she's going to get covid because of all the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers lmao. just a thought.

Jasper

Malinda Kathleen, get out of NYC and go to a place that allows freedom and self expression. Texas and Florida come to mind. You are feeling overwhelmed due to the political environment....join us where we can go to restaurants without masks, exercise in truly safe spaces without drugs or crime, and express yourself. Start your tour here and see how welcoming these people are to artists .

Dan

I absolutely love your music, but I am disappointed that it isn't available on the Canadian iTunes store. Do you know if that will change?

malinda! i'm so excited for everything that you're brining forward this year! everything sounds so exiting and i genuinely hope that i get to see you on tour, but even if not, i wish you the best of luck in that regard! excited for your music as well (: i'm also glad that you're taking time got better yourself. i personally know the hell of an eating disorder and recovering g from one all too well, (and yes, i think everyone's were worsened over the pandemic), so i wish you luck there too! hope you had a wonderful holidays and looking forward to what this year will bring.

Jasper

Good luck with the ARFID. Remember that we all love you and are on your side.

Robert

Good luck with the tour, Malinda! Coming from someone who’s toured as an independent, both as an artist, and an audio engineer, I know how hard it is. If there’s anything I can do to assist to make the process smoother, please let me know!
