A cute demo of a new song!

Hello my amazing patrons!

Here is a demo of a single I'm working on for next month.  It's SUPER cheeky.  It's called "You Ain't It (but you'll do)" and it's about not feeling that desperation to find someone to "complete" you.  And being proud of that independence!  But choosing actively to share love with someone.  I don't know enough songs about that, so I wanted to write one :)

Let me know what you think!  Really interested on your feedback here.  The production will eventually be very pop, think Charlie XCX, Carly Rae Jepson, Tessa Violet but with the MALINDA orchestral moments.

Enjoy!

I like the reminder of enjoying one another’s company. It’s such a strong and upbeat song. To me it might be even more empowering to say “You Ain’t It (But This is Good)”, but it’s catchy as is. It’s a song about the lighthearted side of relationships, instead of “are they the one?”, and sometimes the “This is good” type can really help you spread your wings. Only if both people are really confident can the other person handle that they’ll do for now, but that is colored by my own experiences. :) I’ve been in relationships where we realized that we weren’t “It” for one another, but we were still happy to be together and young for that moment in time. I like hearing a song that captures that moment. :)

Discord seemed to be discussing the different interpretations of the song and lyrics. For me, this song is mostly a really nice reminder to not stress over relationships. I know the whole subject of romance and dating causes me a lot of stress because I'm finding myself going into it focusing on "the end," either a "happy ever after" or a rough end. "You Ain't It" runs very much contrary to that, and instead serves to remind me to find joy in the journey, to enjoy the relationships I'm fortunate to have. And it's really catchy

Pleasant melody and I think you've developed the lyrical theme well. Looking forward to hearing what you do with it from this point on!

The vision of imperfect romance reminds me of the more extreme The Avacado Song by Marian Call. Definitely room for more songs in between, even if I can't stop looking for my princess.

I really love the song, the perfect song how I want to feel when I’m in love 🥰 , you did a amazing job with it. Even that I think it will be the best if you keep it small, because if you will make it big it will lose the warm hug it gives.

Oohhhh, I’ve never heard “shit” sung so musically before! 😂 The word used as a lyric, definitely not as a descriptor to this song because it’s awesome! It’s giving me Bobbie from Company vibes (2018 West End production), maybe a song after Being Alive?

Jonathan Isip

Love it. Very catchy, found myself singing along before the end.

Suggestion: every other "you ain't it", or maybe just the second one ... a rhyming phrase?

Love this!

Wow! Wasn’t expecting that. Brilliant song

Love the beat. Very cool concept. Choosing to love tends to lead to growth without losing your self-hood. That is very positive. OTOH, the partner will have to have a lot of self confidence (not ego) to accept being told “you’ll do”. Which would be a good thing. Relationships work best when all partners are willing to grow together.

I love it! But I gotta stop listening to these demos, because I get really attached to the first version I hear. This version sounds a lot like Regina Spektor, which to me is a good thing. Love the lyric 'Time might make us the punchline but we'll still be laughing.' Brilliant!
