NEW VIDEO and new series???

Hello my friends!!

This was so fun.  I want to make a series on my YouTube channel where I get to explore music from different cultures.   And this was the start of that!

I got to interview my INCREDIBLY talented friend Archana, and you should all check her out after watching this video.  She's one of the many people I've had the pleasure of meeting since moving to NY.  I'm so excited to watch her grow as an artist!

What other styles of singing from around the world should I learn about???

Also side note, I really want to hire a camera crew for things like this in the future, which is TRULY only possible with Patreon.  So thank you for helping me up my game everyday :)

More to come!  And see +$5 for the livestream on Saturday at 2:30pm EDT and everyone else after on Discord!

That's so amazing to hear and I'm glad you loved it too!

This. I was actually already having a really good day, and this kept it going for sure! It's fascinating on its own - but to be very slightly immodest - it reminded me in a very pleasing way that although my voice has never been at the professional soloist level, i do have a really good ear. And my somewhat plain voice is very well suited to harmonize with other voices more individually pleasing than mine. I wondered if i could hear and reproduce quarter tones, and it certainly seems as though i can. The first time through this first lesson i was right there with both of you. Again, perhaps not my usual - breathtaking - modesty 😜. But seriously, it improved an already good day, as i am aging, and my eyesight is beginning to fail ... that i still have a couple of worthwhile 'tricks' left in me! Back to the video and the music - THANK you for this! I'm not knowledgeable about this culture, but everything i learn i find fascinating!. (I need to find a place where i can stream Bollywood without paying a fortune!)

I love that you are doing this. I have always wanted to learn Indian traditional singing. This great!!!! One of the other styles that comes into my mind to learn is Balkan singing, but that might be more of a group style. I'd love to have a part 2 of this video!!!

I love this idea. Even though I studied music there is so much out there from different cultures that still amaze me.

Try laplandish joik!

Wonderful! Arabic music (specifically Lebanese) —check out Talia Lahoud!’s channel. Also modern Oud music (BalQueis has a channel). On my other heritage side, Puerto Rican cuatro music (Maribel Delgado or Saborboricuapr1). Talia is admittedly the only singer among these four. But the others will give you an idea. :).

This reminds me of the video where you tried classic rock wailing. I love these videos that look at the mechanics of music.

My recommendation is Scandinavian Heavy Metal. You will be surprised, because it is influenced by public musical school and has a lot of classic elements in it. It isn't just guys screaming at the audience.
