Figured Out, the full scene, is here.

Hello my beautiful patrons.

This scene...breaks me every time.

It was our first day of shooting. I told the team, "My friends are going to come in here, and we're going to sing.  We're going to have 3 camera coverage going and lots of different audio sources.  My goal is to make my friends as comfortable as possible as if the cameras weren't even there so that they can do exactly what they know how to do."  This was a daunting task for any crew, let alone a crew that had just met, but they smashed it.

We had no rehearsal.  My friends knew the song, but the arrangement you hear is improvised on the spot and every little reaction is genuine.  Even though these are characters in a film, this is the scene in the movie where the line between the story and my life is by far the thinest.  To have this time capsule of these extraordinary people in my life, singing all together, and filmed so beautifully is an absolute treasure.

Enjoy, my loves.  If you come see me on tour, prepare to sing, too ;)

That was a seven-tissue video. As in, that's how many I went through while watching. This is so beautiful and my heart is full. Edit: okay... eight. Eight tissues.

As someone who's struggling to figure my life/career out, and whose creative side has been semi-starved lately (I relate pretty hard to the "poet in a 9 to 5" line from Brooklyn), this hit so many figurative chords that resonated with me. And in a really, really lovely way that like... fed my soul in a way I didn't realize it needed. The world needs more group singing and jam sessions (and other things that feel like this). ^_^

I miss so much having people I can sing with. This is beautiful and soul lifting and I am in tears. I miss it so much, I can’t even explain. I’ve said it before: thank you for sharing your journey with us , Malinda. It’s a real honor to witness❤️❤️❤️

That is legit one of the coolest and most beautiful things I've heard recently. Can I sing in your next movie? (Yes, I'm actually a singer and not just saying that, lol.)

James Ranson

Holy moly, didn’t realise that was on the spot! Makes the scene and its feel even more beautiful.

With Soul, you perfectly portrayed how so many of us have different versions of ourselves all residing within one body that we WISH we could split off and have separated. And how when you're performing your art, how you wish you could separate the performer from the appreciator and have a version of yourself that doesn't want or need to be center stage but off to the side and really take in the moment in all of its aspects without being the performer and being so caught up in a thousand trains of thought at once thinking about how you look, how you sound, how you are being perceived. And how harshly you can and could and would and will be judged and how we are our own worst critic, usually. VS. The other who can give you that reassurance that - NONE of that matters. That what matters is how you FEEL in that moment. Being PRESENT in that moment and ENJOYING the moment. And enjoying who you are spending that moment with. And not live in your own head but be able to do so safely in reality. And you, without a word- portrayed that concept so flawlessly with showing Soul to be a separate entity. A separate being besides yourself as the performer who was just there as an observer and who was able to completely immerse themselves into the moment and enjoy it as it was. It was beautiful.

It looks so much realer than all the reality TV I have ever seen. And it feels so honest. Simply love it - you bring quite a bit of genuine positivity into the world. Thanks for all of that.
