A new song??

Been having an excellent time with my new looper. I'm not sure about this, but I think it's a verse, pre-chorus, chorus and bridge/ending. I'll probably add another pre-chorus. It's just a sort of mantra to help me remember that I want the best for myself. Below are the current lyrics that will most definitely change. Thinking *possibly* of a sort of Bobby McFerrin session style feel, really minimal production, a little jaunty whistle, lots of perc, gang vocals, very folky.
What I'm interested to know:
-Does this sound like a MALINDA song to you?
-Does it hit anything emotionally for you?
-Did it get stuck in your head?
Any thoughts are super appreciated. Trying to hone my radar for telling if what I'm working on feels like a "hit," whatever that means.

Overall, it lends itself to what my general philosophy is becoming as I get older. We all have rough patches - or, as my dog is saying right now, “ruff” patches - in our lives where things don’t go the way we expect, or wish, they would. If we have the resilience to accept, learn from, and transcend beyond, ofttimes life has a funny way of giving you what you actually need or must experience, but taking a different form that lets you grow in a profound way. And, yes, certainly has the bright Malinda feel to it in a somewhat different style. That’s what I love about your music. Some artists have a very repetitive style/genre, whereas you have a certain spirit that flows into whichever genre fits a given song. The music/rhythm changes, while the signature voice shines through. I’m looking forward to seeing, or rather hearing, where it goes from here.

I think the layered vocals in a more detailed mix would deliver that differently! Sounds incredible, keep doin your thing! Love to hear this and hopefully the more that's coming!

I really hope this comes through because it's already hit me right in the feels, I totally know the feeling of doing everything you can to make yourself happy and pushing through when you're not. I love the base beat and vocals but something about the sort of beatboxing sound didn't sit right with me; otherwise, I think this is the start of a new fantastic release.

The beginning feels easy going and makes me smile. When the song builds up it starts to emotionally carry me, which feels good. The lyrics in the middle part sometimes cause different (more sad?) emotions to me than the music. So, not sure about my feelings there. But chorus and end are my favorite. Also, I like the style and your vision for it.

Yeah, It sorta makes me think of But You'll Do, maybe just because it's an atypical subject to sing about and the layering in the end (can you tell I'm not musical?). -Does it hit anything emotionally for you? I'm wondering if it's not executed carefully if it could sound overly self indulgent or self centered in a negative way, maybe just because as I say it seems like an atypical topic, but on the 3 or 4th go round it started to remind me of Life Has Been Good To Me by, I think, Randy Newman. Sorta cheeky and upbeat in a similar vein. -Did it get stuck in your head? The middle bit might could but as it is not really, no.

But seriously, yes, it does sound like you and it is pretty catchy, will probably get stuck in my head. It feels a little stressful/agressive at some points. You got this though, and I know how much your songs change between first demos and release so I ain't worried lol. Keep going

LOL Otherwise this is the best I have for constructive thoughts. BTW I love your work, no matter what “KEEP GOING!” Yes. This absolutely your sound/song. Did it get stuck in your head? 1) It’s definitely catchy, 2) I have listened to it 25 times straight through and it’s still interesting (good sign) I do agree with Guido Tech and the notes they left regarding percussion. The melody and foundation of the song are solid. Since Guido said those things, I’m focusing on emotional resonance with your voice. -Does it hit anything emotionally for you? Lyrics are wonderful and hit great spots for me. I know you’ll change them so I won’t bother commenting on that. Taking the track based on the posting… Right around 22 to 40 seconds - it feels stressed, I like the message but I don’t feel open to receiving it… kinda like I’m trying to convince myself what I am saying is true That feeling changes at seconds 42 to 53 - I feel much more willing to receive the feeling here, stress sort of relaxed into something I can access, I am feeling like this is fast and I have to work to “hear” it (if that makes sense) Seconds 59 to 1:13 - This is beautiful. Opens up and I feel so good hearing this 1:15 to 1:27 - Love the lyrics and the layered sounds in this section. I want to emotionally fall into this part but I feel stopped by the high note layer. Not sure why. That said, Minute 1:27 to 1:36 I really feel like the high section matches perfectly and I do fall into it…. Honestly this is where I get sold on the song and want more… and then you give it to me at minute 1:45 1:45 to 2 minutes God… that just get’s me in the heart… The chord there really let’s me dive into the feeling of the lyric Minute 1:27 to the end is my absolute favorite section… feels like I have something to hang onto and take with me. So, what you have at the moment… LOL comes on like a freight train… you know something is coming but you’re not sure until it’s there in your face… I think filling out the song will help. If you’re thinking “hit” lol it doesn’t come on strong enough in the beginning to do that (maybe) … But with your current build up I think this one has staying power and longevity. The kind you’ll play at every concert because it’s just a “really good song.” I do hope that helps.

Not boomwhackers, the one with the PVC pipes that you slap with paddles, using the same rhythm you have here, but more in tune with the song. Keeping it super simple would reinforce the lyrics, IMHO. But, you are the artist. :). I’ll love it no matter what you do.

I expected it to have more of Music Box vibe (maybe because I've had that song stuck in my head for a bit), which makes me think it's more versitile. It's definitely a MALINDA song - a celebration rather than a reflection, I would say. As for getting stuck, I have a sneaking suspicion of "yes:;" especially that bit at the end.

2023-07-15 07:30:20 +0000 UTCHere are my "braistormed" thoughts: * Yes, it's a Malinda song. * The overall speed is good, the text part starting with "And I’m moving through every road..." is to fast, slow it down. * I love the last part where you put together "I'm breaking and breathing" and "I'll live and die". * The topic is very much resonating with me. It has something to do with mental health (in the broadest sense) and that I should remember that I should always be my own best friend. I can very well imagine this being a repeating mantra song that will resonate with many people. It reminds me of the "meridian songs" or "meridian mantras" from Karl Adamek (the topic of Karls work is "healing power of the voice"). (I'm a drummer. ;-) The basic groove is good, but you should try to "sand the corners". And again regarding speed: If the percussion is done right, it will work very well also when slowing it down a bit. * Does it get stuck in ones head? This will very much depend if the topic of the song resonates with the listener or not. If it does, then "hell yeah", if it doesn't, it is still a great song. :-) Thanks a lot and keep it up! This was a hard question for me to answer as I'm thinking - Why wouldn't this be a MALINDA song? You wrote it, it came from your heart, your emotions, your life experiences. I can hear all of those elements in the lyrics (yes, I know they'll change) and how they relate and are personal to you. Finally, your songs are always emotional and we're able to connect to them in our own way and I feel it in this one. On the other hand, because it is only in the beginning stages and doesn't have any production added, it is a little hard for me to hear the folky/Irish part I get when I listen to your other finished songs and think "This is a MALINDA song." (Hopefully you know what I mean by this). Because of this, I only want to judge it based on the basic rhythm we get and the lyrics. In this case, yes, it is a MALINDA song. I love what you have so far and I can't wait to see where it goes from here. I also want to add that I don't want to put your music in a box and say "If it doesn't meet these criteria, then it's not a MALINDA song." Every song is a little different. For example, 'I miss her and I blame you' vs 'Wear Me Down'. Each has a different vibe but they're both MALINDA songs. Plus, music changes and evolves and that's not a bad thing. All in all, I believe what makes a MALINDA song a MALINDA song is one that comes from your heart, and allows us to connect and feel the emotions of it with a folky, Irish flare. -Does it hit anything emotionally for you? Yes, it does. This has the feel of a summer bop... like walking around, 95 degrees with a playful breeze, flip flops and Jean shorts and a tank top, walking by some mom and pop appliance store (can't believe this town still has one of those!) and their old radio is blasting "Saturday in the Park," stopping and getting a frozen lemonade, your song here is the internal happy soundtrack for that kind of day. To answer your questions; oh, yes… it comes from you, it has your DNA, it’s totally a “Malinda” song, heheh; Emotionally, the melody and rhythm is stirring, gets the blood going— this feels like a small (so far) self-affirming anthem, acknowledging yourself in a way a friend would (which I LOVE!), and I wrote a bit of my thoughts on Discord, but I don’t mind repeating that it was a good reminder of how we’re constantly being reborn in life, if we allow ourselves to grow. Also has the folksy rhythms of the The Folks I Love EP and the coming togetherness of More With You where each line gets a bit more added in. Really put me in the mood for even more music, which is why I think it's a good track one/opening number. I say that because, ever since, before love letter, the sound in your music has been an ever-changing soundscape, evolving, growing, and developing much like a person does! Which to me, is one of the coolest things about your music as a whole. Emotionally speaking, I'm feeling self-acceptance vibes, without arriving at any fixed destination, developing a sense of contentment with where you've been, where you are, and where you might be headed next. "Breaking and breathing" layered with the fun percussion and "live and die by me" A hit having literally zero measurable determinants is all too relatable even as a listener. I'm in the camp of "if you're doing something that feels right at the time, then the path you're on is true." With that not always being helpful, I do think it's a departure-ish from your more recent songs, something not everyone is going to jive with, though in my experience, that tends to happen no matter what, might as well make something you like first and foremost.
