It's good to be back! (RSI update and... hardware tour?)

(Photo: My desk, now with 4 RSI pointing devices to switch between! Left to right: MX Vertical, Apple Magic Touchpad, Wacom One (2023) pen tablet, Steam Controller. The split vertical keyboard is the ZSA Moonlander, which is even more comfortable with the vertical tenting kit I now have. For completeness, I'll finish the tour by saying that the white audio interface/mixer is the Yamaha AG06, and the MIDI keyboard is the Lauchkey Mini, both have physical controls that allow me to avoid touching the mouse!)

RSI UPDATE

Thank you for your patience with my RSI-induced delays and lack of regular communication since March, I truly appreciate all the kind comments, advice, and well-wishes. Many of you told me you've had or are worried about RSI in the past, so I'll tell you what I've been doing.

I feel like I'm on top of what works for me now, after two months of experimentation. I've started doing some thing and stopped doing others. I'll categorise my description by these two categories:

Update achieved! I'm drafting my next video already. I'm planning for it to be a shorter one this time round, stay tuned. I'll be careful not to over-do it, and I will be taking it slow.

Thank you all again for your support, I am so very grateful :-)

*"Detrimentally Sentimental" is, I guess, my Kate Bush cover band? :-D

Comments

It's possible! Just like for my ADHD video, if I feel like I have a GENIUS BREAKTHROUGH that needs to be shared, I will. So far, I have no magic advice other than "you cannot outrun long hours of work with a clever keyboard. Take breaks." :-D

I'm wondering, will you make a video about RSI and possibly ergo-keyboards in the future? Cheers from Denmark. :)

That's VERY interesting, thank you for the tip, I'll give it a go!

It sure is! Phew! :-D

thank you so much!

Well spotted, yes I am! This is the maximum tilt the accessory goes to, no modification. It's EXTREMELY comfortable

@StHubbins, thanks for sharing. I will also consider this. Quick question, even though aimed at the lower body, you don't happen to know whether such massage gun would also help with stiffnes around the hip/pelvis area? Like massaging the thigh muscle?! Also, I see a Moonlander (https://www.zsa.io/moonlander) in the picture, which I have myself. You are using the platform accessory and it looks as if you get a tilt higher than 60 degree. I might be wrong, but if not, how do you get a larger tilt?

Awesome stuff! I have so much respect for anyone who takes massive action to overcome health issues. Gotta throw everything at it and emerge with your own system eventually of the "greatest hits" that work for you as an individual which can be tricky with so much info out there to sift through. I've been through similar issues that got the better of me for too long. Thankfully I have my own greatest hits now but I got so excited to seeing all your tools and tricks. Gonna try a couple i think. Also: MASSIVE game changer for me was massage gun on high setting on palms and wrists, low on finger tips. With arthritis/RSI flare ups this essentially shakes out majority of the stiffness/pain away for me. Usually at the end of each day, sometimes morning if going through an actual flare up.

That's awesome man!

Happy to hear things are going better!
