We start this week with a Porsche 944 Cargo by DP Motorsport, as not owned by Jonny apart from in his dreams. That’s followed by a rival 944 shooting brake but the company Richard was thinking of was Artz and not Baur. We move on to the one-off Boxster shooting brake made in the Netherlands, followed by the disappointing ID. Buzz, the handsome Peugeot 408, the possibly-inspired-by-other-cars Rivian R3X, and the AMC Eagle. Finally, Richard’s dog (almost crashing Suzuki Ignis, not pictured). Now some links…

I kicking myself I’ve overlooked her earning potential all these years. Richard

Smith and Sniff

Paid £1 to see the dog. Totally worth it.

Jamie F

Although Jonny may not like the 924, that Artz one is based one (albeit a Carrera GT, it’s even retained the US-spec rear bumper)

MarkWilliams

The Buzz really is a Chaterati Tossers vehicle -Honestly - does anyone with an opinion worth listening to think they are cool? The Sunny Delight of motors

Matthew Aves

All that chat about the first gen Rover 213/216 cars, reminded me of my last UK company vehicle - another “rare but nobody cares” car I’m sure - it was a 1989 Rover 216 Sprint. This was a parts bin special designed to use up excess Rover 216 Vitesse parts before this model production phased out. So it was basically a regular 216 fitted with Vitesse close ratio gearbox and suspension, plus a rather smart grey cloth interior with sports seats and red piping, similar to what you would have seen in an MG Metro of the era. These were only available in Black, White and Red, with unique Sprint decals/stripes and bright white wheel trims over slightly wider steelies. I remember it being a rather pleasant and well built (if rather gutless) car, that had a lovely gearchange and nice tight handling. A Sprint (er) it was not! My example was black and the reg was F139BBO. I left it behind when I moved to the US in 1990. I can’t imagine there are any of these left now?

I have to disagree on the German Scimitar, surely that has to be the BMW Z3 M Coupe, I owned one back in 2000 and they cost about the same now!

Mark Anderson

My brain hurts. I’m currently listening to episode 102, you recently purchased your RR and are selling your 911. And yet I joined Patreon today and accidentally read the first post to discover you’re now selling it. I’ll see you in several months once I’ve caught up with you. That will be a sad day 😔

Jason K

>> … it will stare at you as he drives past That’s such a crazy image 😂 . What a little shit.

Jason K

Strewth, all them cars I've misrepresented in the Croydon Advertiser. Of course you're right, G reg was the first of the Head Gasket 200's.

Simon Smyth

and what is so wrong about the initials DP????

David Parsons

F-reg is late '88 into '89, chief. Seems like the low boot lip came in 1987.

Smith and Sniff

Not sure about 750s in the UK but I believe it became popular amongst Rover 75 pervs to fit the rear lights from the Roewe to their cars. Needed some shenanigans with the electrics, I think, because of multiplexing or something. Richard

Smith and Sniff

Low boot Rover 216 '86 on an F chief.

Simon Smyth

Working my way through the back catalogue so I'm a little confused about whether Rover 75 discussion was recent, heritage, or perpetual; but recently someone off of the Reddit What is this Car channel posted a blinged-up 75 that turned out to be a Roewe 750; built from the tools that SAIC bought from Rover (subsequent legal shenanigans notwithstanding). Turns out they stuck another 103mm into the wheelbase (I can only assume, for rear legroom), and used a new auto gearbox, but built versions of the KV6 and K series donks; and now I wanna know if anyone's imported one back to the UK to add to their BL/Rover fetish dungeon. And, importantly, how is it? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roewe_750

I had resisted looking at Richard's Range Rover but I gave in, I like it but can't understand how he lived with that damage on the front. As much as I do want an L322, I don't like silver and it's not an 8-speed.

Matt Tester

In 1983, Osbourne Computers demonstrated the second generation of their machines and announced they would be available in a year’s time. Sales of the current generation collapsed and the company failed. This is my theory as to the surprising rarity of the hotly anticipated ID.Buzz - almost as soon they became available in the UK and lead times dipped below 2 years, Volkswagen announced the long wheelbase, larger battery, 7 seater (and hotter GTX). A potentially more desirable option that’s still not available to order.

Darran Shepherd

That's not a dog, that's a Muppet....

david marden

I bloody knew Richard’s dog looked like that

Gabriel Grist-Parker

The DP cargo is ideal for when you need to take a big load in the rear.

Toby

One the subject of owning birds of prey Living in quite a rural location we have a gent who regularly use our local fields for flying his generic bird of prey (possible a buzzard) His choice of transport for this endeavour is a silver hyundia sante fe You would think that the bird travels in the boot but it doesn't. It travels on the passenger front seat and it will stare at you as he drives past. I cannot comment on the state of the front seat in either a pooh or talon front

Thinfourth

Put it on today and unfortunately I immediately got distracted due to something happening in real life. Then I came back to ‘bring a coin!’ for the residents visitors parking permit for the mature lady encounter 😂

I am partial to the Porsche 924 because I owned one. I loved the balance and even had it tweaked a little by modding the exhaust (Michigan has no emissions checks... [would not do that today] ) and lightening the car as well as improving the ignition. Got the car running smoothly and likely a few more horses and torques going... It did have one problem though in that no matter how I tried under very strange circumstances the rear hatch window would open up of its own accord. After replacing all the mechanicals I presumed it was really fixed but towards the end of a... shall we say mildly not legal race it popped open like a huge air brake, which mightily impressed my opponent... Less impressive was what could only called the flatulent sound of the plastic dash cover I had installed as the change in air pressure caused it to fly off the dash, bang my knuckles then crumple into the foot well... The other guy give me the win because I won on points for "style"....

Solar! The always very excellent Marques “MKBHD” Brownlee did a video about the Telsa roof solar he has. He lives in New York State and collected data over a year. In the end he didn’t pay for electricity at all, it was all solar. He has storage batteries and sells excess electricity back to the grid. He also has a Tesla which he only charges at home. It’s a great video https://youtu.be/UJeSWbR6W04?si=rH5CYjLzLydHW2dv

Bad football badges? Obviously Jonny isn’t aware of my local team - AFC Bournemouth? Link - https://149361974.v2.pressablecdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/afc-bournemouth-blog.png

Richard Major

I reckon that Rivian have basically just copied the classy design of the Yugo 45 for that lovely looking R3X…

Toby Walker

Looks that way to me too.

Killian Cronin

Imagine if someone invented a system where you could charge a vehicle at about 22000kW. Oh wait….

Sergey Baskakov

The rear glasshouse on that VanThool Boxster/997 shooting brake is clearly from a 2010ish VW Scirocco

Sergey Baskakov

Heck of a spot in the UK.

Smith and Sniff

Hand mince!!!

Smith and Sniff

That’s a badge engineered Holden Statesman.

Chris Oxford

"Calm Eagle" implies the existence of radjey eagles, which I can confirm... A mate of mine years ago who ran a falconry Centre owned an enormous golden Eagle called Annie. He and the guy who worked with him used to draw straws to see who would wake Annie up each morning (Annie did NOT enjoy being woken up)... Those leather gloves? Yeah, even the ones with chain mail woven into them have no chance against a bird that size - instant hand mince... Not the best way to start your morning!

Stuart Maxwell

Without yet listening to the podcast, did they graft the back end of a Scirocco on to the back of that Boxster? It look just right.

Mark Sheridan

Fifty quid or fuck off.

Misteralz

Guys, guys listen right. I was a cars and Coffee event in basically Derby and saw what I later found out was a Daewoo Statesman. Not often I'm completely stumped as to what a car is but this was one of those times. Unable to get a photo as I was sans phone at the time OTSOT.
