Show notes 209

Hello and welcome to the late-running show notes for the latest podcast. Let’s not get bogged down in why they’re late when frankly it’s just a load of pics of the Eagle limo and then a brief diversion into some fancy but slightly one-end-heavy Danish cutlery. Ahem. Here are some links…

Save Tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry

According to Wikipedia, the Senator B had an Aisin Warner auto ‘box (but ZF Servotronic steering).

The guards’ vans Richard was thinking of are actually brake vans. Thanks to everyone who pointed out this important detail.

As for the Patreon price rise, it turns out you can’t just jack the price of an existing tier. On reflection, that’s extremely sensible thinking from the Patreon Corporation of America and we’re absolute flutes for not looking into this before announcing the change. What we’re about to do instead is introduce a new tier at the new price and encourage you to swap over to it. You can stay at the old tier, of course, but from now on if you’re there you won’t be able to see the show notes or get the new episodes early or, small drum roll, see the thread we’re about to post where we invite you to submit questions for our new Friday spin-off show, On The Other Side Of Things.

Olly B

A three door shooting break to complement the eagle / statesmen. https://www.facebook.com/share/9sNs2zCDUvPvgXQ2/?mibextid=79PoIi

Alistair Campbell

Tiff’s reborn BRM V16…many years ago (mid 90’s) I bought a vinyl 78rpm record in an antiques shop in Scotland somewhere. So far, so dull you may think… Actually it’s possibly the only surviving recording of the BRM V16 going round Goodwood and was recorded by a company called Antone. Maybe Richard could remix it with Tiff’s sonorous tones over it and sell it in an almost transparent leather sleeve?

Simon Edwards

Cannot change my membership status, been thru prices twice and it accepts my payment but I'm still stuck at Sppppooorrrttttaaa

Paul Fargher

The original tier was always £1 a month. If you have been paying £4.34 a month you have been paying more than the minimum. You'll get the same content you are getting now for £2.49

Robin Johnsen

Guys Hey Guys - I'm confused by the new Tiers. The Eagle Quest tier is only £2.49 per month. I'm currently paying £4.34 per month (based on £1 per pod). Is there an option to preserve the amount I pay without losing any access? I'm guessing you don't actually want a reduction in my subs.

Niall

Can anyone recommend a Podcast app for Android that's not YouTube Music. Google have decided to close their podcast app.

Des Denman

So I'm missing something here about tiers then, all I can see is the £1 tier..

Chris Jarrett

Ah, yes. A thought occurred to me. The “Eagle Quest” is giving me Canal Boat vibes.

Tanner Lee Robert Milne

New Patreon member, old listener. Keep up the good work.

TouringDad

Gents, Is there scope for expanding the collection. Vauxhall Omega Limo complete with custom air brushing 😂 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186433768847?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=khACXykGRBK&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=SDEt7iuCT4-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Andrew C

Have officially been Eagle Quested...

Andy Pinchock

Who’s to say we won’t?!

Smith and Sniff

I can't believe you spaffed the extra cash on the Eagle, when you could've bought the actual Austin Rover company... https://www.iconicauctioneers.com/austin-rover-ltd-company-name-registration-number-email-address-plus-metro-6r4-drawings-rec13479-3-sywell-0524

Nick Davies

That is awesome!!! When are you going back to buy the Daimler XJ40 limo?

Frank Hall

As new new member I was disappointed when you put the price up so paid for a full year. Then I felt guilty as £2.49 per month isn't even a pint of beer. I've happily upgrade to next tier.

Simon

thanks!

eddie

Question now is, can you find an EV with a matching wheelbase?

Matt Kimber (Timberwolf)

Eagle Quest sounds like one of those terrible BBC Acorn educational computer games of the 1980s.

John Hammond

Fascinating. When Holden got hold of the Senator/Omega to make the VN Commodore (1988), they apparently binned the steering - VNs had Rack and Pinion; but retained the live rear axle from the previous (narrower) VL - which was based on the Rekord of 1978. This may be because they stretched and widened the VB-VL platform and morphed it on to what was essentially an adapted Senator upper body. Later, they made an even longer wheelbase Statesman/Caprice luxury model. (IRS was introduced in 1991) VNs had the 3.8L Buick V6 (fairly powerful but uncouth) or the local 5.0L OHV V8. (the VL had used Nissan's sweet sweet RB30 3.0L straight 6 which was being used locally at the time as Nissan was making the R31 Skyline (and its dull 'Pintara' 4 cylinder sister) down the road. Interestingly, Holden developed a 4 cylinder model of the VN for the New Zealand market, which apparently used a Vectra 2.0L engine, but rotated it to sit north-south, retaining RWD.

Matt Stanford

Tell me the 4th image ( Jonny in a chauffeur cap/hat) isn't a Foreshadowing of Jonny announcing his only fans account?

Jono

Happily Questing with the Eagles now. Can’t wait for the “support” to kick in.

TD

Kettle simmering at the tail end, Click-clack, your rhythm's gentle blend. No hustle, no bustle, just pure delight, Radio waves fading into the night. Once a man of corporate solitude, Now a lantern, his spirit renewed. Flash of light along the riverside, Beware the man with four cans by his side. No oil, no name, no job, no blame, In the bleak mid-platform, a presence came. Vending machine vistas, a sight so strange, Two dogs in a trolley, their world arranged.

S B-L

Had to upgrade. The comedy is excellent. Thanks S&S

Mark Podmore

I am now a Questor of Eagles and shall polish the virtual badge to match. Splendid.

Richard Gledhill

It's Gense, available from RoyalDesign.co.uk... https://royaldesign.co.uk/twist-cutlery-16-pieces :-)

Richard Gledhill

Upgrade applied. And a wee bit more to cover the works van. Great work.

Alistair Campbell

As a newly anointed quester, when do I find out the secret handshake?

Mark

Also, I used to pay £5 as I’m absolutely minted and extremely generous, but now I’m on this new tier it’s gone down to £2.49 and I can’t see how to up it to £5 again. Sorry about that.

David Jones

Flaunting exceptionally high-end cutlery and bragging about the cash purchase of an actual top-of-the-range limousine on the same week as a 149% price increase! Makes me sick. 🤣👍

David Jones

Nice. Bagging it? :)

clive hedgecock

They really are quite shit at this :-) Hopefully we all pitch in $5 for the amount of amusement they provide.

Paul Brown

The remaining months on your Spowahtaaaaaah membership are credited towards your new Eagle Quest upgrade. 🙌

Grahame Hunt

The best news is that I don't have to rage quit as the cutlery by a Dane that Jonny has is not the Arne Jacobsen stuff made by Georg Jensen. I'm not saying that gear is expensive, but I couldn't even put it on our wedding list as a full set in the 00s was about £1k 😳 We still don't own it 😔

Ant Brown

Ooh. There's no £ option, so I've just saved myself some pennies each month because I'm now on $5. Bargain!

Ant Brown

Must be a Brown thing. I've been on a fiver a month since the start 🤷🏻

Ant Brown

I'm now fully Eagle Quest'ed

Daniel P

Love the cutlery; links?

Kevin Perham

Can you at least edit to new tier to called eagle and the OG tier to be called ‘Bottom of no name suspension bike Guy’s can bag’

Swanger

Who's going to radwood this year?

Russ Hill

I am a quester now

Russ Hill

what happens if you’ve paid for a year upfront?

eddie

I am bloody confused now with tears and thing's

fred bloggs

Yes, I'll take the upgrade, some sticky wood effect trim will impress all my mates.

Graham Dallas

As a Patron that pays very slightly over the Eagle Quest Ambassador General Statesman level does naff all happen to me? I just stay as I am? 🤷🏻‍♂️

George Wade

Technically not an upgrade as I was paying over the market price anyways and will continue doing so

Paul Brown

Ooh lovely new luxury tier with- hang on the clock's broken

Brendan McAleer

Fluteshoot 👍

John Dawson

Hup-graded, still got some blanking plates where higher model switchgear would be. That childhood envy when studying the dashboard picture in the user manual and referencing the associated numbers to find out dad’s car didn’t have fog lights or an electric aerial. Loving your work, John (Southport)

John Dawson

I have just become Eagle Quest tier. I now feel like a Temu super hero.......

Dave Carter

Have you guys thought about doing an live show at Great Northern Classics in Derby, which is after all basically in Nottingham? https://www.greatnorthernclassics.co.uk/

Nicky Ellis

I have upgraded because Kate Beckinsale came to me in a dream and told me to.

David Phillips

I'll go and syphon the petrol out of the old tier, I'd added the £1.49 to it already in case I missed anything.

Andrew Jude

I upgraded to the new tier with luxury floor mats and full leather interior.

Steve Morton

Have upgraded and seeing that beautiful Monty pic reminded me that my second car after an automatic five door lift back Toyota Corolla (just the set of wheels for a cool 17yr old) was a Montego with a broken drivers seat….in LX trim. The seat caused much hilarity and was the highlight of an otherwise total merd box….

Catcave

Rather than Eagle Quest.. what about the PLanK? Shit yeh?

Andy Faulkner-Clegg

Upgrade done. Nothing but the best for you two....

david marden

Is that a Pott cutlery set? Been looking at those for some time.

Maurice Barnes

Happily upgraded to the higher trim model! Does that mean I get the hubcaps in the mail?

Bjorn van de Ven

Two not very unteresting things to add from today's pod. 1) In the mid 90s my mother had a Senator B as her daily and she ran over my foot with it. 2) I had to accompany my daughter to see BTS live at Wembley stadium as she was a mad fan who was too young to attend alone. It was one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen at Wembley, even if I didn't understand most of the words.

Daniel P

I'd like to upgrade from the LX to the new Ghia trim level please, but only if you're including mats and a tank of fuel 👍

Andrew Armstrong

Find another

David burt

So glad you posted the cutlery because I was genuinely wondering 👀

Newark Jr

Look like a fruit shoot in that hat 👍🏻

Ian Napier

Better late than never. Can’t wait to see what the Eagle gets up 2.

Dan

Is there a secret "anti crawl" button on the front of the gear lever like my dad's auto Carlton had in the late 80's?

Bertie

So we have Patron Popular and Patron Popular Plus?
