"YOU. ARE. ENERGY.
I have been repeating this to myself lately, why though? I find myself googling about energy and going down rabbit holes of definitions, here’s a few: the capacity for doing work, the work that a certain force can do, ability to be active, the energy of motion. I’ve been thinking about how the first steps of starting a new project feels like a conjuring of energy, that later builds steam during rehearsals, and eventually ends in a sparkling and fleeting explosion of live performance.
This month I’m looking forward to “scratching” more for inspiration and beginning to generate new movement phrases for my next work. The term “scratching” is something that stuck in my head after reading Twyla Tharp’s The Creative Habit. She uses that word to describe her process for gathering inspiration- it feels fitting for my own ritualistic way of preparing for a new work.
