Let's have a chat about ThongSmithing

Thongsmithing is the art of creating more thongs. Thongsmithing will require "essence", a timegated resource that you can get once a day (but stacking up to 5 if you haven't played for 5 days). But I'd like to know how the actual crafting should work? It will purely use the website, I don't intend on requiring anything on SL to use it. Here are a few thoughts I have. Please send feedback either as a comment here or as a notecard in SL.

Thongsmithing will purely be for thong classes, there will be no visuals involved in them other than spell effects. I might do a "workshop" mode where 4 workshops are randomly generated each day. Some workshops are more rare and would cost a little more essence and gold. That way I wouldn't have to bother with adding any real inventory to fill with random clutter.

Minigaming it would be interesting. Requiring other items sounds good. Crafting them doesn't seem like it would be a frequent activity, so maybe the resources to make thongs somewhat time consuming to acquire with rarity-scarcity. +1 for shop. That could play in to later expansion in to crafting other items (potions?) Crafting only being random output can be an RNG troll. Would be nice to be able to pick the class with some mechanism for increasing luck on rarity like using more resources and/or acing a minigame. Perhaps the user created thongs can not be acquired manually but are added as to the pool of official thongs. Or separate the mesh attachment from being the equipped though. User created thongs would just be appearance only meshes so that players can better fit them to their avs, the textures and embellishments could be dictated by the current equipped class thong, that way the player would only really need to fit one thong attachment once to their av but its appearance and fanciness would change as they "put on" others without having to refit a new attachment each time (which can be a pain for non-default shaped mesh avatars or uncommon ones, and always a pain for system bodies). If going this route, these thongs could have fake attachment points to mark out various locations where extra details can be added via additional attachments that can adjust the positions to fit any thong. e.g. One class thong might have bows on the hips.

If you go for materials, i have two ideas for you: 1. Different materials for each tier of thong per class. Example : Silk and Infused Crystal results in Mage thong, Linen and Ironplate in a Brawler thong. 2. Skill fusion. If you have two thongs and one of them has a skill you'd like on the other, you can sacrifice that thong to transfer the skill onto yours, overwriting an existing skill of your choice (like pokemon forgetting a skill and learning a new one). This of course comes with a high price in essence and whatever currency you implement.
