Let's discuss weapons!
Added 2016-04-03 15:07:53 +0000 UTCWhile development on the new level is continuing, let's discuss weapons. We have plenty of time as there's a JasX overhaul needing to be done after the new level is complete.
These are some questions I'd like to start a discussion on:
- Should there be an auto attack button or some sort of standard weapon attack for all players?
- Should the weapons have increasing stats or work more like TF2 weapons where the weapons are fairly balanced but will modify your playstyle?
- How should you acquire these weapons?
- Should there be a way to sheathe weapons?
- Should there be weapon classes? Like staves for casters, sword+board for tanks etc?
- Should there be a stance animation when you're in combat?
- Or should weapons just be decorative and I'll update the melee character animations to match these weapons?
Let me know your thoughts!

Fuy this is a fantasy RPG, not GTA. The only ranged weapons I'd consider are cross/bows, cannons and flintlocks. Auto unsheathing while entering/exiting combat could be a good way of showing when the player is in combat or not. I just don't know if players are willing to give up the extra attachment slot it requires.
2016-04-06 14:51:49 +0000 UTCi also like this idea. xD
2016-04-06 14:49:34 +0000 UTCi really liked how it was gonna be on oTiS... but maybe added holstered weapon slots, like two handguns, one rifle, and one spread weapon (shotgun)? a melee weapon can replace one of the handguns, or two of them... note that this is only when they're holstered. otherwise, with the exception of the melee/handgun weapons, you can only use one at a time. and even then you need to unlock the dual-wielding skill! =D on that note, please no weapon classes! we're already limited to class selection... and i hate that already xD make it skill-based instead. the more you kill things with a specific weapon type, the better you are at it. and no auto-attack please. unless it's toggleable to be off. and weapons should be with increasing stats, but also with added skill stats on that specific weapon type. how should we acquire them... a store that can be accessed through the website? also random token drops of random value, dropped by mobs and that can be exchanged at the store for actual equipment/weapons! (not money though... since these tokens would mostly just give you a discount in the store) sheathing, yes. see first paragraph xD classes, anyone can use anything but level up their weapon-type skills. stance animation, yes. preferably a high-priority one that works with most AOs xD
2016-04-06 14:48:03 +0000 UTCI like the idea of the weapons being thong based, or around your waist. So you never use your hands. Hula-hoops, strapons, ect. Maybe the weapons just boost the attacks you already have.

2016-04-04 16:48:59 +0000 UTCI was thinking the weapons would have percentage stats on them. Like one weapon might increase damage done but also damage taken. Another weapon might have a proc that gives you mana when you attack, but reduces passive mana regeneration.
2016-04-03 18:51:32 +0000 UTC• I like the idea of an auto-attack however that should definitely be a toggle seeing as I'm sure there are others beyond myself who occasionally throw a fight and purposefully lose. • Since levels are not quite flushed out yet this is a bit harder to answer however I do like the idea of weapons simply modifying your play style. In what ways would one play style be affected though? Will they change your active spell line up? Or will that be something new thongs do? I kind of like the idea of weapons affecting and changing your active skills (they are weapons after all) and then perhaps the thongs could act as greater modifiers to your stats. Take the mage for example, a "wand" could give the player the default line up of attacks we have currently and then their thong would add modifiers to say attack speed and damage or defense. So even though I may be playing with another mage, I may have speced into heavy attack speed with my thong but as a result go down after a few hits, yet my partner could've invested into a more defensive thong and thus, while we're using the same weapon and skills our gameplay will be different. It would be a way to add variety without having to add "much." Then once you combine different weapon line ups and attack combos plus thong modifiers you'd have a pretty large variety of choices for the player to go with. Similarly the same could be said if weapons just affected stats as well and left the active skills to thongs. So a wand may give quicker attack speed but slightly lowered damage and a staff could add a damage boost, but at the cost of speed. • I think weapons should be able to be bought or found. Maybe a similar system to how TiS handles weapons, a very small chance of a random drop when killing a monster. That chance though depends on how the weapons are implemented. If they only change the playstyle then they should largely be purchased with a very small chance for drop in game. If they have stats similar to TiS then I think a drop rate at those levels would be appropriate. Then of course, either way there should be a merchant you can buy them from which would also add a use for copper/silver/gold. • Sheathing would be cool, but seeing as you go from one fight to another pretty quickly I wouldn't give it too much of a high priority. • Def should be weapon classes. Kind of ties in with point two as well. Different types of weapons could have different types of attacks or stat modifiers depending on what direction you went with them. • Attack and stance animation while in combat would be awesome.! • I think weapons should definitely have a purpose. Be it changing ones play style entirely or simply modifying ones stats when equipped.

2016-04-03 18:07:22 +0000 UTCI like the idea of play style changes but I thought that what the new thongs were going to do eventually, so just having things that incress base stats, as it were might be more fun. I think they should be able to be found or bought just like any other RPG. Sheathing would be a nice touch and stances would also be a nice touch.
