Mega64 Record Club Ep. 76 - Blondie - Parallel Lines(#148)

This week, my sister Krista is back to discuss an album that neither of us had fully listened to before—Parallel Lines by Blondie. Join us as we explore what made this band so groundbreaking and how their manager took a $500,000 gamble that paid off big.

I love the energy when Krista is on lmao

This one didn’t do too much for me. Wasn’t bad but nothing really caught my ear other than the hits that we’ve all heard 10,000 times already. 2/5 for me and always happy to see Krista on an episode. Release the Hank cut!

I love Blondie so much!!!!! I’ve been listening to them all week. I’m glad you and Krista were into Parallel Lines :) I recently learned that that weird bubbly tapping noise in “Heart of Glass” was sampled in Missy Elliott’s “Work It,” when I went back and listened again it seemed so obvious haha. Super cool use of sampling. There’s an early version of “Heart of Glass” on their Plastic Letters’ re-issues called “Once I Had Love” that is definitely worth listening to, just to hear how far that song has come. Sunday Girl has a French version that’s kind of fun to listen to - I always like when artists record their songs in other languages. And the song is about a cat, so that’s cute too. If you like this, definitely check out Eat to the Beat - honestly, you can’t go wrong with Blondie’s discography because there’s bangers on every album. Special shouts out to “Shark in Jets Clothing” off their self-titled, which I’m pretty sure the Mr. Show theme song ripped off. My favorite is Auto-American tho - very disco!! They worked with Moroder and Flo and Eddie on it, could not be more up my alley if they tried! Another great episode and super pumped for next week, too!!
