Been a while since my last health update, so here goes:
Previously...
As you may already know, the last 4 months or so have been a living nightmare of pain for me, having most of my body covered into one giant red itchy painful hive, going to the doctor countless times, trying countless different drugs, treatments, supplements, lifestyle changes, etc. The only things I've found make a good dent in the problem so far are either high dose topical and oral steroids (neither of which can be used for very long, as they're basically deadly over time, and cause extreme dependency issues after 2 weeks), and very high doses of Zyrtec, which has reduced the symptoms, but now is causing potentially dangerous issues that may be forcing me to reduce dosage soon. Neither of these are cures or long term solutions.
Recently...
Things finally got to where I was forced to try the Hospital for answers on the 12th of June. After a couple injections/IVs for allergic reactions (which did very little), a CT scan (which revealed that my liver and spleen are normal size again. That's good.), and a CBC (blood test which was normal/healthy across the board)... the doctor said he was stumped, with no clue of what was wrong with me. He also begged his superiors to let them admit me to try and figure it out, but I was denied (probably because I have no insurance. God, I hate our healthcare system). So he put me back on steroids for another short period. When my oral steroids started to run out, I did more research and found some promising recent studies...
Now...
It's been about 2 weeks since the oral steroids ran out (I've been on topical ones since, but they're about to reach their cut off as well as of a couple days from now). But for the last 14 days I've been taking high doses of vitamin D3, as numerous clinical studies have shown that there is a link between low D and eczema, psoriasis, and chronic hives. I am replicating treatment of one study in which these hives have been drastically reduced (4000 IU per day); 1 week saw reduction by 30% and 3 months by a further 40%... It's hard to tell just how far I've come, since I've been on the topical steroids for most of this time, but I'm trying to stay hopeful as I continue on with the treatment. Though kidney pains have come into play as of a recently, so I'm working that out (it may be the drugs, the vitamins, or yet another symptom of this ongoing cluster-f$%k of disease).
A of today, I'm functioning fairly well, but that may change as I alter what drugs I'm taking. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I'm hoping all of us will stay safe during these tough times as well.
Regular News update to follow this post, and hopefully a regular month of content as well.
I love you all.
