Like I said on FA she reminds me of The Brood from Marvel. A race of Xenomorph shape shifters who lay their eggs in preferably superpowered sentients. When the egg hatches the new brood assimilated the memories and super powers of it's victim. Originaly the host effectivly died, but after assimilateing a powerful human psychic the species mutated so the infected are transformed into a Brood but retain the original "soul", of course the gained Brood instincts and the Queen could control their body like a puppet at anytime. Meaning yes a broodifyed person might not want to assmilate a loved one, but get taken over and be forced to.
