CCHC #57: Black Music Conversations

Carl and Ahsohn discuss B2K, autotune, and the significance of Black artists' place in music.

Ooh, the Darrell Green and Deion disrespect. I 100% agree that the average level of athletic ability and performance in pro sports improves year over year, and that pretty much any pro team from our era would beat the shit out of any team from 20-30 years ago. But some players are outliers in any era, and Darrell and Deion are among them. Darrell ran a 4.43 40 at age 50!

Sean Murray

One of my favorite records: Otis Redding - Otis Blue featured a white woman on the cover Bc the label didn’t think the record would sell with a black man on the cover. Otis made a point to put a beautiful African-American queen on his “Soul Album” cover once he had control over his own content. I like to think it was a big “F”-you to the industry.

10c Beer Night was a different 1970s Midwest baseball riot than Disco Demolition Night. Shouts to Clevo.

Haven’t listened to the audio version of the pod in a minute, this theme is a banger. I love when Carl gets in his music historian bag. Always drops gems. White ppl been appropriating black music since rock n roll

Carl, you should listen to Jimmy Pardos discussion with the DJ from disco demolition. His actual take is interesting.

Ahsohn not knowing about the death of disco night, as a DJ, is shocking.
