Posting Update

Hi Patrons!

Just posting to give you folks a quick writing update—especially those of you in the Saber Tier, who haven’t heard from me in a while. Per my August update, I got back to writing new material in September. Since Girl Squad Volcanic was due in November (and came out today, actually!) I had to prioritize getting those seventeen chapters to patrons at the Sickle and Sword tiers. In the meantime, I have been working on Gunpowder Magnolia, just hitting some creative stumbling blocks.

Now, writing adult fantasy is always slower going for me than writing YA. My adult projects tend to be a little more experimental, meaning it takes me a while to figure out how I even want to structure a given chapter before I can get to writing it. On top of that, I’ve had a lot of trouble deciding where I want to take the plot of Gunpowder from my last posting. Over the last couple years, I’ve had several different ideas for how the book could end, and having reached the decision point, I’m struggling to figure out which of those concepts will fit the best. This just the risk you run when you serialize the first draft of a complicated story.

Regardless, you can expect new chapters to start coming in before the end of November. If I can’t figure out a workable direction for the story by then, it’s probably not going to happen in this draft, and we might as well go full steam ahead into the chaos.

After I’ve chosen a plot direction—for better or for worse—I should be able to pick up the pace. Going into 2024, I hope to change my Gunpowder posting schedule to 2 or 3 chapters a month through the end of the book, which should balance out the long hiatus.

As always, thank you all for your patience and support!
