Next week’s episode: My Favorite Year (1982)

SO #4: Barton Fink with Broti Gupta

Comments

Love the show, and to any critics, what is more Hollywood handbook than earnestly offering a valid reason why the Oscar -winning Coens might be out of touch?

Derek A Arnold

Does Hayes get residuals from projects that use his name? Great episode once again!

Eric Larson

Love this show and now I look forward to the next episode so you gotta keep making it, and I've got a feeling that you will, and it won't be a postcard.

Björn Unnar

Loving this series! I don’t know what’s on your list, but a movie that’s sort of about writing that I would absolutely love to hear you cover is ‘the master’. Could inspire some good conversations about sophomore efforts and how it feels to follow your own act after you struck gold the first time. Just a thought! Love you and in love with you!

Daniel DeMulder

Subtitles on (SO) and RogeTapes (RT) combine for "Something of the SORT; movies which contain action scenes or elements while depicting the writing/acting/production process."

Christopher Davis

When you are a new writer coming on to a show like The Simpsons, is the expectation that you must be relatively familiar to all previous seasons and jokes so that you are not pitching something that has already occurred on the series?

Christopher Davis

What a good show idea. I've really got to start watching these movie ahead of time to help get the full experience.

Jacob Stock

This show is great, the stores are great, the guests are great, and you should feel great.

This show is good as hell

I think a notable precursor to Charlie's "Heil Hitler" line is when the cops are first interviewing Barton and one of them says with thinly veiled disgust, "Fink. That's a Jewish name, isn't it?" And the name of the detective that Charlie says "Heil Hitler" to and then kills is literally "Deutsch." So I always interpreted Charlie's line as taunting the anti-Semitic cops. Love these conversations so much, thank you!!

Adam Lauver

Sean this show fucking rocks you’re the man

Hogbone

Sean out of character is always a treasure

Allan Hutchison-Maxwell

As a religious Hollywood Handbook listener, I wasn't sure if I'd like this show and Sean "dropping the act"...this show is now my new religion. Great job Clemdog, keep em coming!

Elias Cahoon Bayer

the conversation about interpreting the end of the movie could have also been the “smart thoughts about the movie.” in order to maintain an “i majored in film studies” air-of-pretension; i always list BF in my top 5 Coens movies whenever they release a new one. i pulled out my copy of the DVD while listening to this podcast because it reminded me why it’s one of my all-time favorites. tldr: great work, Sean!

We love you and are in love with you Clemdawg

Emma

Bundle tier.

The Flagrant Ones

I think this show is funny and interesting. It’s so nice to hear Sean and guest talk about their work.

Gregory Theilmann

I was trying to articulate that its funny to hear you paying respect to a writer for accurately representing the kind of absurd and insane things movie ppl say and do because you are THE ALL TIME GREATEST at doing that.

Sneakaboard

Hoping you get the Rodgman on soon too.

Sneakaboard

Sean! I wasn't being critical when I said that, I said it was FUNNY which is good to be! No one I'd rather listen to having these conversations. I'm thrilled you are doing this and am stoked you are doing Fink so early too.

Sneakaboard

https://twitter.com/HMBohemond/status/1683016579343175680 got these vibes during Broti's constant "aDuLt" prattle. A very LA takedown.

I Heard This Smells Eloquent

Sean is the greatest. This show is great. The biggest difference between this show and the insider stuff that HH makes fun of is that this actually interesting and good.

Chalazan

wow right out of the gate a hottake on brothers

grant brown

love these

grant brown

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - this show fucking rocks

Tim

Where do I find episodes 2 and 3?
