Shūsaku Endō is a writer. His life contextualizes the film that Martin Scorsese made based on a book by the author, which makes this about the author. Nothing missed.

I feel like you've missed the premise of the podcast.

Can you do the film Silence by Martin Scorscese? It is based on the book by Shūsaku Endō. The national library of medicine has an article about his tuberculosis and how he wrote here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2563703/
"Shu‐chan, as his mother used to call him, was enrolled at Noda Elementary School, Kobe. The boy did not enjoy school. In those ultra‐nationalistic days in wartime Japan, he had two strikes against him; his Christian faith, and his resistance to militaristic education. He was constantly harassed and mercilessly teased by children; his grades slumped. The situation did not improve when he moved to junior high school. Despite his unsatisfactory performance at the school, his mother remained loyal. She declared to family members and relatives that Shu‐chan would become very famous and would do more for humanity than any other member of the family. “He who knows his mother's love and is secure in that knowledge will never know failure,” wrote Freud. Endo's mother provided him that secure love and confidence."- "As one of the first Japanese overseas exchange students in France, the young man became a butt for racial insults; even his fellow Christians joined in casting ethnic slurs. Depressed, in poor physical health, he returned to Japan after three years. He found his homeland changed; his world was filled with new uncertainties. Doubts about his health, doubts about his faith, and doubts about his future plagued him. He threw himself furiously into writing."
Interesting stuff and I am sure that degree of alienation would be satisfactory to the Hollywood Handbook audience. I find it relatable.

I feel terrible because I basically said the comment Sean was talking about. Whether or not it was my comment, I was too busy writing my most original killer shit and loving it and didn’t stop to think how it could be taken. I’ve always loved insider talk and behind the scenes stuff which is why you guys have always been the best. Have always loved you guys sneaking in more sincere honest “out of character” takes and self-deprecating ,stepping out of character, follow-ups to ripping on someone. The glimpses behind the scenes add a lot to the fun.
Genuinely that comment was meant like, “hell yes, it only took 500 HH episodes to get what I have always wanted (as well). Sean talking about the shit I love in this format.” ❤️
Great episode so far, I haven’t gotten much farther than when that was brought up haha.
