Really loved this episode, except for that it's forcing me to circle around the possibility that I might have an addict's relationship around the drugs I'm prescribed for my ADHD.

This is such a challenging listen but so good and so valuable. It makes my brain do such a crazy parasocial junkie brained one upmanship cocktail. I’ve been to a couple AA/NA meetings I am so extremely thankful that it’s a system that genuinely works really well for so many people but my brain just cannot hear an addiction story and not immediately romanticize tf out of it and feel the pull. On the flip side, conversions like this are great and necessary practice for my brain. People I don’t have a relationship with, but have far more of a context for beyond their addiction, so I can’t just plug in whatever I want to make the fantasy more desirable or poetic or tragic or whatever. Anyway tysm love this series and love this ep

Wait, Earios is no more? ☹️

If Leslie is cool with it, they should make this ep free.

Wonderful episode. As a recovering alcoholic who needed plenty of time coming to grips with addiction....it's nice to hear someone who you admire sharing a lot of the same feelings on what fueled the addiction....and the rationalization that the addicted brain gives us to keep it going. Really appreciate the openness and honesty. I try to do the same these days. Took me a long time to discard the shame and stigma and embrace what an accomplishment it is to dig yourself out of the hole. Anyone looking to hear more should check out the Clemdog's episode of 'The Need To Fail'.

Was that a bit?

Richard Batchelor

He talks about it on some other podcast(s), non TFO...one(s).

Amazing ep. It is legitimately comforting to me to know there is a nice and smart and cool and funny and sober Dad out there as a fellow father of two young kids that has been struggling with addiction. I honestly wasn’t sure if we’d ever get Sean talking earnestly about his addiction, and I love it.

Max Newhouse

Love you Clemdog, thanks for this

Sam

not to be tactless given the thoughtful responses above, but: scharpling trumbo when?

Daniel Sargeant

Thank you so much for this podcast, it was really important for me to hear this today.

Gregory Theilmann

I needed to hear this episode today. Total God shot. Keep it 1 day at a time, Clemdog!

This was riveting. Absolutely love the open, sincere Sean. Can't overstate though how much I also love the prickly sarcastic character Sean. You can see this guy between the lines of that guy in a way that's really endearing. Charming facets of a deeply charming man. Love ya Clemdog ❤️

Was not expecting the Permanent Midnight episode to be the thing that made me realize that just because I managed to white-knuckle style quit drinking three years ago doesn't mean I'm not still an addict and that the disease isn't still structuring my life and behaviors. Showed up to my office crying this morning and had to explain to my intern that I'm an alcoholic, and also I had to explain what Alf was.

Dang, very humble Sean, esp regarding the writing room early in your career. Also, I don't own a TV.

Brian Klik

Thanks Sean for being so open and vulnerable about your past addiction struggles. What a great episode.

Steven Clifford

super lovely conversation between Lesley and Sean that I personally found very relatable and edifying as somebody who also struggles with ego and substance use issues… love this show 🙏
